President Trump will only accept a stopgap spending bill to reopen the government if it contains a down payment for his long-desired border wall, the White House said Thursday, shortly after the Senate rejected two separate funding bills.
The president would consider a CR only if it includes a down payment on the wall, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement to The Hill.

And here I thought Donald was the “master negotiator”.
He’s negotiating himself right out of any kind of real win here. That is, unless the rumor of national emergency declaration and $7B is actually true.
Sigh..
“Why is Trump continually removing every leverage he has?”
The emergency power is his Trump card.
Before using it, it is wise to exhaust other options, or he will be attacked for not having done so.
CNN now reporting that the Emergency Declaration is being prepared. Maybe tomorrow.
If the initial reports are correct, President Trump will spend $7 billion more on wall - off to the races.
YES!!!!!!!
I would love to see how any of you POS trashing Trump would hold up under the same pressures, while being attacted at every angle, by almost everyone...even your “supporters!”
President Trump, do yourself a favor; DO NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION IN 2020! This ungrateful nation does NOT deserve you!
1. It's CNN.
2. The 9th Circuit will block it before the ink dries.
If post 60 is correct, then we will get our wish.
Yes, and no.
I think, what he got was funds to renovate existing wall.
I do not believe they were for any new construction, yet.
If you can do a better job...RUN FOR OFFICE!
I love you brilliant keyboard warriors! The toughest decision you’ve had to make today was what to have for lunch!
Most of them are in assisted living. They dont have to decide anything.
Caves again...
“The Art of The Deal”
You Never Trumpers are real POS!
Bttt
I hope the admins ban your ass!
Actually, you're the one throwing profanity around.
And you’re a NeverTrumper troll
Wrong again, was a big fan of his until his promises about 'build the wall' and 'lock her up' turned out to be mere campaign slogans.
You're just a personality cultist that can't hold your cult leader to his promises.
I like the shutdown. We now have a real time, prospective view of how the government functions at a 20-25% reduction. If Trump can more freely move money around to pay essential elements of government and cut out just some of the waste, he can prove to the public that the Federal government can be cut safely and permanently. This means that we could reduce deficit spending, and that at least slow the growth in spending on debt interest. A better bottom line makes US Treasuries more attractive, and lower interest rates are more likely. In addition, now that many of the “resistors” and “predators” are at home, Trump can get things done and many businesses are seeing regulatory relief from agencies and courts.
I think Trump likes the shutdown too, maybe even more than the wall.
That pic in post #23 http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3722628/posts?page=23#23 is the truth of the matter, Nancy now has time on her side and the political high ground and Trump gave it to her with the delay of State of the Union speech until the shutdown is over....please face facts and reality....
Please. We had enough vacuous fawning with Obambi. If Trump does a good job (which he already has on MANY things), we’re all going to be among the first to congratulate him.
If he wiffs (which so far he appears to have on his number one, signature issue), I don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling that out. (And no, it does not make anyone doing it a “never Trumper”. I’m personally among his most ardent supporters).
All the “this is just 3D chess” stuff gets really tiring. We’re getting our tails handed to us by Pelosi. Call it for what it is. He needs to find a way around her, as it is obvious as the day is long she’s not giving a single dollar for “the wall”. I hope he DOES declare a national emergency. But it’d be wise for him to shift away a bit from the crime angle and start to attack on the economic angle a bit more as well, as that is the “pocketbook issue” that is going to resonate with the American public.
FWIW, I also think it was a HUGE mistake to give in to the witch on SOTU. He should have used the powers given him in the Constitution to call their a$$es into session and delivered the speech. Letting her call the shots as to time and place is inconceivable and gives the left and their allies in the media a huge club to pound on the right with (ie: she “won”)...
