Has President Trump suckered Democrats and the Deep State into a trap that will enable a radical downsizing of the federal bureaucracy? In only 5 more days of the already-longest government shutdown in history (25 days and counting, as of today), a heretofore obscure threshold will be reached, enabling permanent layoffs of bureaucrats furloughed 30 days or more.

Leftist bureaucrats lose jobs, government saves money and functions better. Trifecta just there. And he’s going to get a wall in the end.

You cant make that assumption, plus political persuasion should be completely irrelevant.

I suspect that on the whole privatizing government work ends up costing the taxpayers more.

And private citizen groups could oversee the parks and do other jobs that need to be done.

That depends on the type of contract. Contract personnel are more expensive than government employees. They do not get paid more, but the overhead is more. Plus, contractors can leave at any time. So if you are depending on them, they can cause much inconvenience.
My agency is not affected by the shutdown. Trump had the foresight to fund the DOD months ago.

Not that I WANT people to lose their jobs JOBS?!!!
These overpaid bureaucRATS don't work. We want these RATs off the gravy train, and forced into the thriving private sector, actually working for a living.
Government "workers" are the ultimate class of parasites.

Same might could happen with this situation.

Perhaps. But after Trump backed down on his stated commitment to “immediately declassify” the FISA docs I’m not so optimistic. That too was an opportunity to drain the swamp and strike at the deep state. It turned out to be a lost opportunity.

Unlike any of the recent Presidents, nearly everything Pres. Trump has done has been to help the American people and the DC cesspool cannot stand that.
Everyday I get up and wonder how DJT has survived when Pres Kennedy could not!!! I pray for his safety each and every day. BUT I refuse to pray for a nation that has turned it's back on the one and only God

I liked the post where there were no tears cried by the average schlub government worker when coal miners, auto workers and construction workers are laid off. I say ..let'um starve, go get a real job.
The stereo-typical Federal government worker, kind of mirrors the average welfare recipient. Black, 40's, female, 2 or 3 bastard kids, up to their neck in CC payments and debt to pay for the weaves, nails, LCD TVs, expensive clothes and nights out with the girls. They sit all day long with a headset in their ears, looking Excel spreadsheets and basically wasting your money and being nasty to you on the 1-800-IMHERETOHELP gimmedat helpline at some alphabet agency. Federal government work is basically a giant affirmative action\retards jobs programs. Sucks being a Black, racist government workers doesn't it Laqunndisha?

You talked about Trump paring down the size of the administrative bureaucracy. You used an analogy to make your point. I too used an analogy to make my point, which was to say that given a previous opportunity to drain the swamp (releasing the FISA docs) Trump didn’t follow through and do it. I’m sorry if that truth/reality offends you.
Its a case of wishful thinking versus reality. The FISA docs could have been the impetus to legitmately fire a bunch of people, but despite Trump’s rhetoric, the reality is the opportunity was lost.
It would be great if Trump would take this opportunity to reduce the civilian workforce but he passed on the last one and likely isn’t going to be pairing down the bureaucracy anytime soon.
