RUSH: Now, this government shutdown. You know what? This such a great opportunity. The medias now doing tug at your heartstring stories about the hardships being experienced by people because of the government shutdown. Ill tell you, this is a great teachable moment. Weve always believed in smaller government, reducing the size of government.
Listening to the complaints I saw something on CNN just before the program started. And it was about I think farmers or people that work in agriculture somewhere who may not be able to go on without government subsidies. My initial quote, why are they getting government subsidies in the first place? I dont get any government subsidies. How many of you get a government subsidy to keep doing what you do? Unless you work for Elon Musk, unless you work for stupid solar or wind, what kind of subsidy do you get to survive every day?
All these people on the government dole one way or another are now starting to complain and whine and moan about it? I dont expect it to happen, but its an excellent opportunity for people to find out just how corrupt this government is in terms of how its buying and leveraging support.
A very good point by Rush.
Who has actually been impacted by this shutdown ? Its had so little impact it shows that so many of those on the public purse are not missed when they are gone !
The GOP should be on the airwaves getting this message out!
The GOP doesn’t want to reign in govt spending. They’re willing accomplices of the dems in raiding our treasury.
Yep.
Local media full of sob stories about food stamp recipients not being able to eat and many of them are poor undocumented residents.
UNDOCUMENTED RESIDENTS!

Debasement affected the Silver denarius throughout the years. Small amounts of copper were added to the silver, and the weight of the coin was decreased. 141 BC, the Roman denarius weighed 1/84th of a Roman pound (3.9g).
It is an old trick. Make sure to get the denarius that was coined when the Romans started their monetary system, and make sure to “...render unto God, what is God’s.
I said it from day one, the longer we go without these non-essential employees the better because the sky is not falling the question becomes do we even need them to return.
Are you talking about seigniorage?
“...its an excellent opportunity for people to find out just how corrupt this government is in terms of how its buying and leveraging support.”
Oh, H#LL, Yes!
We get a small tax break based on some set-aside land that we own that is kept in a Deer Management Program. We have to DO THINGS (create deer habitat, mostly) at our OWN expense to get that small tax break.
However, we know of many farmers in our area that get big bucks for little effort on their part...and have for GENERATIONS.
I’ll never understand it. All subsidizing the Big Guy does is HARM the Little Guy. Watching so many Wisconsin Farms (mainly Dairy) go under is so painful to watch. :(
Pelosi made omments about how great it was to be unemployed.
Why is she not extolling the virtues of unemployment now available to 800,000 unnecessary government workers?
Why is she not talking up about how great it is for them.
Why is the media not running Nanzi’s words to give comfort and hope to the workers?
Why are they not being told what a great opportunity this is for them?
I get the feeling this is a much bigger deal in DC than it is in the real world.
The loss in the value of our money and how it relates to the declaration of national emergency, under current law.
Valid point.
Local media here is running stories about these “poor” gov’t employees in dire straits because they miss a paycheck (which eventually they will receive, and I am even ok with a reasonable amount of interest being added — fair is fair.)
So, a couple crybaby interviews are done, and I am a halfway observant person... WTH, these gov’t employees are living in nice townhouses, etc., and they never thought to save enough $$ to be able to go a few months until new pay resumes? Sorry, unless there are extenuating circumstances, I have very little sympathy.
Correct. Virtually all of the Republican candidates go to Iowa and sing the praises of ethanol even though its a lousy product and actually pollutes more than real gas does. You wont see Louisiana Republicans fighting sugar tariffs, either. Lets face it. Americans like their government gibs.
Exactly so!
I also understand, that these gov’t employees have excellent benefits, in addition to salaries better than the private sector! Plus, they can’t be fired! One report I read, stated that several of these workers are retired military and receive their military retirement pay every month.
I journeyed to the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum over on 91st street and was stunned to learn that is was closed due to the government shutdown.
Dispirited and heartbroken as I was, I was determined to salvage the day so I jumped on the subway (yay, still running) and went downtown to Bowling Green to check out the George Gustav Heye Center where I hoped to encounter some Indian artifacts and perhaps explore the genealogy of our next president, Elizabeth "Pocahontas" Warren.
But...stymied again. When I saw the sign out front that they were CLOSED due to President Trump wanting some kind of wall built, why it was like a kick to the stomach. I had to sit on a bench next to the Charging Bull (not closed but covered with pigeon crap) and compose myself. I literally fought back tears as panhandlers walked past with their tin cans. Normally I'm very generous with street people but today I was not in a giving mood. Not after having been dealt two heavy blows in the space of one hour.
After a while, I picked myself off the bench and wandered on down Whitehall with tears in my eyes. I hung a left on Water Street and found myself at one of my favorite watering holes - The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog (not closed) - where I consoled myself with a Haitian Botanical Rum ($18) and moved on from there to the harder stuff.
I'm just saying, I had a hard day and I had to reward myself.
Farmers don’t get subsidies - they get the choice of taking the money and doing what the government demands or being put out of business.....
