Starting the long overdue pullout from Syria while hitting the little remaining ISIS territorial caliphate hard, and from many directions. Will attack again from existing nearby base if it reforms. Will devastate Turkey economically if they hit Kurds. Create 20 mile safe zone....

....Likewise, do not want the Kurds to provoke Turkey. Russia, Iran and Syria have been the biggest beneficiaries of the long term U.S. policy of destroying ISIS in Syria - natural enemies. We also benefit but it is now time to bring our troops back home. Stop the ENDLESS WARS!

Wish I could share with everyone the beauty and majesty of being in the White House and looking outside at the snow filled lawns and Rose Garden. Really is something - SPECIAL COUNTRY, SPECIAL PLACE!

I love that man!
Normally, I’d be miffed about stating when we’re withdrawing, but if we’re carpet bombing The Bad Guys as we exit, and our CHILDREN can FINALLY COME HOME, I can live with that. ;)
I was mobilized for Operation Desert Shield/Storm in 1991. We have p*ssed around over there for TWENTY-EIGHT YEARS. Enough!
Stop the ENDLESS WARS!

It is a bit humorous now watching all the liberal pundits go on and on about how it is so terrible that we are leaving.
Islam is a declaration of war upon the rest of mankind. 13 centuries and still going . Like an insanely evil Energizer Bunny. The world will never know peace as long as that vile cult still exists.
Thanks for posting.
Godspeed to President Trump
[Turkey. Russia, Iran]
3 names that will be linked all the way to Ezekiel 38.
I pray that he keeps his promise to the Kurds.

I'm not following the logic here - we are pulling out but still have a base, ISIS still controls territory from what I've been able to gather they have 35,000 fighters which seems significant. Currently we are kicking their ass but now we are going to leave. Isn't this almost exactly what we did in 2011? I'm for disengaging from all these wars and I do like the presidents philosophy but damn it seems like we are already there - finish the job and eliminate ISIS.
This is a withdrawal of 2000 troops from what I'm led to understand this is a pretty small foot-print that is yielding great results against a genuine enemy of the USA, ISIS. Maybe the 2000 there will be happy about coming home and returning to their families but I'm guessing they probably will be frustrated with being called off when close to inducing total capitulation - this is an all volunteer military - everybody in the militarily these days knows the score and what they are getting into.
I get a sense from the explanation of our strategy in these tweets even the president is trying to thread together the logic of this pullout.
This just seems like giving ISIS time to reform which would be a mistake. I'll give president Trump the benefit of the doubt as he has definitely earned it but I'm not seeing this turning out well
The President tweeted:
“Will devastate Turkey economically if they hit Kurds.”
Feasible option - instead of spending lots of our blood and treasure, threaten an unacceptable amount of their treasure to deter them.
“Create 20 mile safe zone...”
That could be a disaster, if it means Turkish military 20 miles inside Syria (cutting the main East/West highway, M4). If the Turks move 20 miles South, their artillery will reach another 15 miles or more further.
Sabah newspaper said the plan is for the Turks to take the border crossing of Tel Abayd, drive South to take Ain Issa and cut the Highway, to lay siege to Kobane.
Turks are going to lie. And push the envelope and see if there is a response.
Economic means are not going to stop this.
Trump thinks the Kurds want a battle with Turkey, they may at some level.
Erdogan is not like any other Turk leader, he is 100% behind the terrorists.
The sooner we admit this this better for everyone. There will be no moderation from him.
Appeasement is a huge mistake. He is as bad as Iran in some ways.
Headshake.
I’ve been watching the ANF feed the past few days, the Leftism is up a tick. Not sure if that is coming only from the mountain or if it has filtered into Syrian forces (I doubt it, but it is possible).
Betrayal for the Kurds is a big thing, they have lots of past experience.
It is very quiet from my normal sources. They know what I’m struggling with but what is happening in Syria is deeply troubling too.
If you’re following Tsarfati, you know that the Kurds haven’t exactly kept their promises to us, flirting with the Shiite side like they did in Iraq and actually selling oil to Assad (and to Iran, I read somewhere else).
So don’t shed too many crocodile tears for the Kurds, is my advice.
They are a vulnerable group because they have no nation and look for help wherever they can get it at the time. But that doesn’t mean our foreign moves should be in any way based on loyalty to them. We should honor our commitments to those who honor theirs to us.
Troops here are waiting for orders now that Mattis is out and decisions are still being made.
Yet he considers the Kurds to be terrorists because they are seeking their own nation. Since many of them are actually in Turkey, this is a threat to Erdogan.
See Post #9. I felt better after reading that! :)
He “considers” anyone who speaks against him as a terrorist or terrorist sympathizer.
Any excuse is OK for Erdogan.
I am outspoken enough that I would never go there.
Anybody still awake to take note?
1% of the population alive today might be pushing it.
Trying to work on that other percentage...
The Syrian Kurds (YPG/YPJ/SDF) have never fought Assad’s forces (exception when defending against the Iranian forces aligned with the SAA forces. They have never fired upon Turkey except when Turkish forces invaded Syria or shelled a Syrian town near the border.
Turkey just lies a lot as an excuse to kill Kurds.
Fact.
We’re leaving troops at al-Tanf, no full withdrawal.
