Donald Trump said on Friday that he does not plan to declare a national emergency – a day after suggesting he would “probably” do so.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting over the government shutdown and the border wall, Trump said: “What we’re not looking to do right now is national emergency.”
The president instead urged Democrats to “come back and vote” in Congress in a bid to end the government shutdown.
Trump insisted he had the right to declare an emergency, but said: “I’m not going to do it so fast”, according to a White House pool reporter.

Yeah when the enemy rushes onto the battle field, forms a circle and starts shooting itself, just stand on the side and watch the self-immolation.
A caravan is already forming in Honduras, although Mexico has pledged to keep them out, and the official Honduran government is trying to stop them. The problem is that the unofficial Honduran government is their former Marxist president, Zelaya, who tried to be president for life, and the Soros organization supporting him and organizing these “caravans.”
Declaring a national emergency to build the wall -- and then putting the project into a series of endless court battles that will never get any media coverage -- is exactly what these morons in Congress want Trump to do.
Don't let them off the hook. Make them do their damn jobs.
I like Trump holding the national emergency card in his back pocket. If he plays it now, the pressure on Nancy is removed.
Nancy’s mistake was saying no negotiations on wall funding after a short term CR gets passed and signed (Wednesday meeting). She bought the shutdown fallout with that move.

There is only one explanation - they must be great for Trump and abysmal for Dems.
Usually they find at least some twisted hypothetical to run from a poll to support their narrative - but they have nothing at all on this.

All kinds of underhanded crap gets done by referencing this or that national emergency no one but the bureaucrats who refer to them to justify their actions even remember.
Forget the national emergency for now. Move troops to the border and put up the same sort of bases for them we've spent billions putting in Afghanistan and Syria. Have the troops run patrols out of little bases along the entire length of the border as training for deployment to the same sort of terrain and climate elsewhere.
That's all a defense matter we already take care of further away from the border. Have the military learn to patrol a border by patrolling our own border. Anyone they stop, they can hold until the Border Patrol comes to deal with the same way they sometimes are required to hold people until government troops come to take over when they're in a foreign nation.
The first time some drug gang fires on our troops, then declare a national emergency if there's really any need for one.
So if the Mexicans pledged to keep the 15 thousand caravan from doing like the last caravan and either turn them back or keep them in mexico and they fail. Can Trump yank that almost 11 billion pledged foreign aid package of 5.8 billion for honduras and 4.8 billion for mexico to stop these huge caravans from reaching our border ?
President Trump is grinding the down. Stay the course dear President.

Trump did not say he would never declare a national emergency, just that he would not do so right now.
This ^. He’s driving them nuts with the speculation and they’re beginning to crack. Art of the deal. Sher coming out yesterday hurt them bad. Trump is keeping his powder dry for the supreme court fight. He won’t win that if impeachment proceedings are going on in the house, and the house will impeach him if he goes scorched earth on the border.

I heard the same thing on Fox news on the radio on the way home. That Trump was “backing down”. I was yelling at the radio, all he did was put it out there as an option I never said he was going to do anything. These idiots will twist everything to try to make him look bad.
No Dems are gonna change on this over some calls.
Instead this is likely to go the way of the FISA declassification he was going to do, then sent for review, then said it would be a quick review before it was back to him for declassification.
Instead we’ve got our side (Trump and his crew) offering concessions left and right. Earlier this week it was great free healthcare at the border for anyone who brought their sick kids to us. Today is is more security and a path to citizenship for H1-B immigrants.

This is the single best issue he could take into the State Of The Union (SOTU), when the eyes of the whole Nation will be focused.
That must be a nightmare for them. Leverage to deal.
The President’s remark about not declaring an emergency right away as an indicator (like his H1-B tweet), that there are now discussions on a deal behind the scenes.
