The country would face an economic hellscape if the government shutdown lasts "months or even years," as the president has suggested it might, experts tell NBC News.
The doomsday scenario might be unlikely — the longest the federal government has ever shut down is 21 days, a record that will fall if the current closure lasts until Saturday — but it is chilling.
"We'll be in no man's land," Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics, told NBC News.
If the worst were to happen, experts say the devastating impact would be widespread:
•38 million low-income Americans lose food stamps
•6 million face an uncertain timetable for collecting tax refunds
•2 million without rental assistance and facing possible eviction
•800,000 paycheck-less federal employees plunged into dire financial straits
•Shuttered parks and museums while overstressed airports cause tourism to tank
•Federal court system slows to a crawl
•Disaster relief money doesn't get to storm-ravaged areas •Lapsed FDA and EPA inspections lead to dangerous outbreaks
•Private companies looking to go public are stuck in limbo
•Stock market plummets

Amen brother! I think Trump should only re-open only important parts of agencies via CRs. Is it so bad that the IRS does fewer audits or Federal courts indict fewer ham sandwiches? Education, EPA, energy do what exactly? Time for many of these federal parasites to quit or be laid off.
And if the enemedia keeps fear mongering that there will be a stock market crash, well more reason for emergency powers. But if the crash doesn’t come, the public will know how unimportant and actually harmful goverment is to the economy.

Sounds heartless, but it wouldn’t be so bad if that scenario should become reality. Because that and much worse will happen when the US Dollar collapses.
The Congress and big media and talk radio have been quite content lately with the US debt going parabolic. Nobody raises an eyebrow at trillion dollar deficits anymore.
Maybe, just maybe, this ‘trial run’ will cause the electorate to demand some fiscal responsibility.

Not that it matters for this particular subject, but wouldn’t you say that the major reason for the shortfall is someone high up one day decided that the control tower was “too white”?

Of course, the way this shit show runs, the pols would be asking for huge tax increases. I mean, god forbid they should actually put together a budget and figure a way to pay for these things from available funds.
I didn’t get one that cleans, I got one that dried. I normally rinse my dishes really well before sticking them in the dishwasher so I figured I didn’t want to focus on the cleaning. But I hate with a passion having to dry every single dish on the top rack. My last dishwasher was like that. So I got one that dries them well.

Trump gave up on the Wall back in 17’-18’ just like he did on ‘Lock her Up’
Until he discovered last month that his base collapses if he folds on the Wall.
And democrats win if the economy crashes thanks to a government shutdown and they certainly can’t face their donors if they cave to Trump on the Wall.
