The Nobel-winning biologist has drawn global criticism with unfounded pronouncements on genetics, race and intelligence. He still thinks hes right, a new documentary finds.
It has been more than a decade since James D. Watson, a founder of modern genetics, landed in a kind of professional exile by suggesting that black people are intrinsically less intelligent than whites.
In 2007, Dr. Watson, who shared a 1962 Nobel Prize for describing the double-helix structure of DNA, told a British journalist that he was inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa because all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours, whereas all the testing says, not really.
Moreover, he added, although he wished everyone were equal, people who have to deal with black employees find this not true.
Dr. Watsons comments reverberated around the world, and he was forced to retire from his job as chancellor of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island, although he retains an office there.
He apologized publicly and unreservedly, and in later interviews he sometimes suggested that he had been playing the provocateur his trademark role or had not understood that his comments would be made public.
Ever since, Dr. Watson, 90, has been largely absent from the public eye. His speaking invitations evaporated. In 2014, he became the first living Nobelist to sell his medal, citing a depleted income from having been designated a nonperson.
But his remarks have lingered. They have been invoked to support white supremacist views, and scientists routinely excoriate Dr. Watson when his name surfaces on social media.

He told the truth.

Science meets left wing politics
“The Nobel-winning biologist has drawn global criticism with unfounded pronouncements on genetics, race and intelligence. He still thinks hes right, a new documentary finds.”
“Still thinks he’s right”.
Have I missed some late breaking studies?
I have gathered a lot of data on this subject by watching “Cops” and “Judge Judy” and I conclude Dr. Watson is correct.
This is the intelligence political black hole that meets the CDC facts about suicide, self-harm and addiction issues in the LGBT community.
Bring it up and face ridicule, loss of credibility and ability to work in your educated field.
No leftist will ever debate his assertions. Ever. Why is that?
For example...I'd be willing to bet that it's no coincidence that East Africans consistently win the world's major marathon races. And I have no problem that this is at least partially due to one,or more, forms of genetic superiority.
And it's been proven by medical researchers that the Irish have a higher rate of alcoholism than just about any other identifiable group on earth...and that fact is at least partially the result of genetics.I can say this because I'm 100% Irish...and therefore cannot be accused of racism.
Whining by the same people who insist all cultures are equal.
Yup. Exceptions? Of course. But that’s why the are exceptions.
He did the study to the best of his ability and the conclusions were not tainted by PC politics at the time.
Proof the problem is political correctness and not his study. If his study/investigation found other results he would have published that instead.
At some point he will be remembered as the brave pioneer he was/is even if the results weren’t popular.
As Jack Nicholson said in the movie “A Few Good Men” ironically directed by Rob Reiner; “You Can’t Handle The Truth!”. You just can’t make this stuff up.
I guess leftists really don’t believe in science.
To avoid being pilloried by the pc police.
He’s 90, they suggest he doesn’t get out much anymore. He was removed from his post about a decade ago and was so infrequently in the press that when I saw his name I assumed I was going to be reading his obituary. If the NYT assumes that his remarks are so harmful and wrong, where was it that they reserved objection for the documentary maker who amplified and spread his remarks? Otherwise, it would just be an old man alone with his thoughts, only able to share them with people he had direct contact with. If the ideas are beyond the pale, what is the NYT guilty of in repeating them?
And eff the nyt too.

Women and blacks have to be equal or better than white men in all characteristics.
That kind of thinking got “Jimmy The Greek” into a lot of trouble.
