'Gun-toting hippies' greet Boulder 'assault weapons' ban with mass non-compliance
Washington Times ^

BOULDER, Colorado — Boulder’s newly enacted “assault weapons” ban is meeting with stiff resistance from its “gun-toting hippies,” staunch liberals who also happen to be devoted firearms owners.

Only 342 “assault weapons,” or semiautomatic rifles, were certified by Boulder police before the Dec. 31 deadline, meaning there could be thousands of residents in the scenic university town of 107,000 in violation of the sweeping gun-control ordinance.

*****

Semiautomatic pistols and shotguns are also included.

Current owners were given until the end of the year to choose one of two options: Get rid of their semiautomatics by moving them out of town, disabling them, or turning them over to police — or apply for a certificate with the Boulder Police Department, a process that includes a firearm inspection, background check, and $20 fee.

Judging by the numbers, however, most Boulder firearms owners have chosen to do none of the above, albeit quietly.

They can’t do it in liberal Boulder. Just where do Democrats think they can confiscate guns?

Given that the average gun owner possesses multiple weapons, she said the 342 certificates could have been issued to as few as two dozen residents. She knows one owner who certified four firearms, another who certified eight.

“Most of them are doing five to 10 firearms per person,” Ms. Hollywood said. “I’m pretty confident it’s somewhere between 20 and 50 people altogether.”

Hope this estimate is pretty accurate. Be pretty damning to the city council - if the members had sufficient reasoning ability to under stand what it means.

Of course the Rats who own guns DESERVE to have them confiscated. Fools.

I used to read the Washington Times regularly.

But basically never now because it has become so annoying.

They, like so many other sites, are so thick skulled that they can’t understand that people don’t mind advertising, but they hate being continuously annoyed by the presentation of the ads.

For the most part I no longer visit any site with massively populated animated graphics and autoloading videos and my all time most hated....the non stop carousel that has no stop button if they insist I white list them. Screw them.

BTW, saw a good tech article (might have been here) that figures the majority of advertising views are fake, click farms and bots. Morons are paying to advertise on these sites based on fake traffic. Corporate America GroupThink.

You are not a criminal if you are “breaking” an unconstitutional law.

Americans don’t obey patently illegal orders. Not our country’s character. Citizens aren’t sheep. And don’t let anyone lead them to slaughter

This is a most excellent reaction by the public. Thousands simply don’t comply. At that point, a cold chill should run down the spine of the politicians. The people are not complying. They’re not listening and there are thousands of them. A smart politician will back down to diffuse the situation. Few are smart.

Politicians think they can talk their way out of anything. That’s why God invented tree branches, horses and rope.

I agree with you, the ads and videos are a nuisance and they ask you to disable an ad blocker if you are using one. But in fairness, how do they manage to keep their website open? There are only two ways: selling merchandise, or through advertising. Donations are a third method, but you rarely see the request. More and more sites are restricting page views and asking you to subscribe for a minimal fee. Eventually, we will all be asked to pay for access to all sites as they cannot survive without income. It is just a matter of time.

I just went to the site. Not a single ad.
Since I’ve been using the Brave browser, things like that don’t happen.
It even blocks YouTube commercials.
I highly recommend it.

Ha Ha, it’s not just fraudulently documented foreigners that can ignore laws!

Our governments across this land are corrupt to their core. They have chosen to break the compact with WTP. They are illegitimate. They can no longer pass 'laws', they can only pass suggestions. F'em!

As I said I have no problem at all with the advertising in principle. It’s the fact that they’re so stupid and continue to make the advertising so annoying and tasteless. A good web marketing firm is going to tell you that carousels and all that animation get no results in terms of advertising a product. Yet these people build their websites and totally ignore the advice of the professionals. I know because I deal with that.

I had a marketing firm tell me they always recommend that their clients not use carousels and automatically running animated ads. Their clients insist on doing it. The irony is that the advertisers are paying for nothing. The ads are totally ineffective because people do not look at them. I have read trade industry articles pointing out the total ineffectiveness of carousels and slideshows.

This also tells me that the advertisers are not doing their due diligence on the way their ads are presented and the effectiveness of the ads. The research is out there in the industry and yet they get a woody at all the cool stuff you can do technically with no consideration as to whether it actually works. Again this is Corporate America groupthink stupidity.

Not devoted enough to vote for Conservatives. In NYS which is 7-2 Dem to GOP registration, a Dem couldn't get elected statewide if gun rights supporters stopped voting Democrat. That means Cumo, Schumer and Gillibrand would be gone if gun rights people voted on that issue.

Do you think the cops coming to arrest you will set you free when you tell them that?
