I used to read the Washington Times regularly.
But basically never now because it has become so annoying.
They, like so many other sites, are so thick skulled that they can’t understand that people don’t mind advertising, but they hate being continuously annoyed by the presentation of the ads.
For the most part I no longer visit any site with massively populated animated graphics and autoloading videos and my all time most hated....the non stop carousel that has no stop button if they insist I white list them. Screw them.
BTW, saw a good tech article (might have been here) that figures the majority of advertising views are fake, click farms and bots. Morons are paying to advertise on these sites based on fake traffic. Corporate America GroupThink.

I agree with you, the ads and videos are a nuisance and they ask you to disable an ad blocker if you are using one. But in fairness, how do they manage to keep their website open? There are only two ways: selling merchandise, or through advertising. Donations are a third method, but you rarely see the request. More and more sites are restricting page views and asking you to subscribe for a minimal fee. Eventually, we will all be asked to pay for access to all sites as they cannot survive without income. It is just a matter of time.

I just went to the site. Not a single ad.
Since I’ve been using the Brave browser, things like that don’t happen.
It even blocks YouTube commercials.
I highly recommend it.
