"A security source in Arbil, Kurdistan, the establishment of US forces a new base, is the fifth of its kind in the region........"
"In the Shaklawa district northeast of Arbil, within the plan to increase the number of US troops stationed in the northern regions of the country."
Local officials in Anbar province, west of Iraq, revealed in previous statements to Al-Maaloumah that American forces had established two new bases in Qaim district adjacent to the Iraqi-Syrian border.

Further, the end of the report, regarding our two new bases in the al Qaim is confirmed:

and another (unlinked) source:
"A member of Anbar Council says US is establishing 2 new bases in west Anbar Province near Syrian border. 1st base in Rimana subdistrict of Qaim district & 2nd east of Rutba city."
We had a helo base for the 3rd MAW at the old phosphate plant in al Qaim some years ago, but the Iranians and Iraqi Shiite militias have occupied it so far. OK, easier to build new.
There are still about 3,000 ISIS fighters in the far SE of Syria on the Iraqi border that should soon be degraded with this consolidation of forces.
BTW, the French have agreed to occupy many of our Syrian artillery and support bases in Syria. The Syrian Kurds in Rojava have cut a deal to have Assad's forces/Russians secure Manbij with our overwatch. That keeps the Turks out of Syria.
I had speculated some weeks ago that Israel was about to attack the Iranian bases in Iraq and that seems to be off the table for now with these dispositions of our forces.
But ... but... pulling troops out of Syria... abandoning our allies ... Orange Man Bad....
We’re pouring concrete in several locations in Syria, two radar bases so that we don’t need such constant AWACs support, and an airfield to lengthen runways. Another airfield is getting patched and new control facilities built.
We will have a very crispy overwatch and Iraqi bases for quick reaction forces and special ops raiders.
Some raghead Fake News site says so and you believe them?? Says more about you.
Some raghead Fake News site says so and you believe them?? Says more about you.”
Thanks, FRiend, it is amazing how much fake news is posted on Free Republic to rile up those who only believe in the negative BS!
I don’t post “raghead Fake News site”. I didn’t say that I believe them. Read my comments.
I call out the level of confirmation that I have. One is an embedded western intel source, very reliable.
Don’t complain unless you have a competing source, better intel, etc.
Please tell us all about your knowledge of the issue. That will say something about you......
Fake news?
Why would it only be published in arabic? Hardly for western consumption....
:)
Interesting information. Looks like the withdrawal and aftermath are not so careless after all.
The Kurds are good Capitalists and remarkably religion-tolerant for a region in that part of the world.
But it is inevitable that support of them will put both the Iraqis’ and the Turks’ knickers in a twist.
Actually it was US who were occupying French bases in Syria
which means France will have to send more troops when we leave
You got that right.
The Kurds want independence. The Syrians, Turks, Iraqis, Russians, all of the Arab states, and Iranians all hate the idea.
We and the israelis are their only friends.
The thing is, if we really want to pressure Iran, they have over 7 million Kurds that would be in instant revolt is there was a Free Kurdistan in Iraq.
Good point.
The Euphrates valley will be jointly held by Kurds and Sunni. That is why the Gulf States are coming in to permit an American pull out from Syria.
It is about time other nations stepped up
but I wonder if Macron will
He has criticized Trump for leaving. Now we know why
French soldiers have already been there for some time and will remain there. Macron and the other politicians of the world are...well, politicians: performers. ;-)
Thanks, gandalftb! That’ll get a rise out of the anti-defense, civilian military experts. ;-)
They’re hunting for more Giants of Kandahar!
The country of Rojava is that area NE of the Euphrates.
Looking at a map, there is a corridor on the Jordan side that allows Iranians to infiltrate and move weapons.
That’s why our bases in al-Qaim are so critical to interdict the rat lines.
Please excuse me
I got my rivers mixed up. The area of which I speak is the Tigris River to the north of Syria and Iraq, not the Euphrates.
I believe the Tigris valley north and east of the valley will be the new Kurd/Sunni Nation. I’m not sure how far south into Iraq it will extend.
I think that is what is being fought over at present.
As one raised on geography since the 4th grade, it is embarassing to mix them up.
