Ex-NATO commander: Allies wondering if Trump was blackmailed to pull troops out of Syria
Washington Examiner ^ | December 24, 2018 | Daniel Chaitin

Posted on 12/24/2018 5:48:48 PM PST by McGruff

A former commander of NATO said allies of the U.S. are asking whether President Trump was blackmailed by Turkey to pull U.S. military forces out of Syria.

In a CNN segment Monday, Wesley Clark, a retired Army general and former Democratic presidential candidate, said there was no apparent strategic logic for the move that critics view as an abdication to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"You have to ask why was the decision made?" Clarke said on Christmas Eve. "People around the world are asking this and some of our friends and allies in the Middle East are asking, did Erdogan blackmail the president? Was there a payoff or something? Why would a guy make a decision like this? Because all the recommendations were against it. And it looked like all the facts were against it, too."

"We're not quite finished with we're not taking a lot of casualties over there," he added. "The Kurds have been reliable allies. Why do this right now?"

Actually, it was a great strategic move, but the never-Trumpers and deep state warmongers will never accept it.

“It was always a mystery that his troops didn’t frag him.”

Clark was wounded early-on during his tour in Vietnam. Scuttlebutt thoroughly glossed over was that wounds resulted from fragging. Clark may be less than a pimple on a Trooper’s behind but it would be a sad commentary for all parties if true.

Exactly.

The Left believes that we should only fight wars that have no strategic value to us or are detrimental to our security.

This is the letter I sent a couple days ago about the subject. I imagine our guys felt pretty lonely.

From: Retain Mike Sent: Sunday, December 23, 2018 8:25 PM To: yourletters@washingtontimes.com Subject: James Mattis Resignation

James Mattis shares the dilution of the previous administration that sent U.S. ground forces into two tiny enclaves in Syria as a definitive statement of U.S. resolution. The U.S. Naval Institute article titled “Senators Quiz Military Leaders on U.S. Forces in Syria after ISIS” is interesting, because of the map presenting areas controlled by various armed factions. This colorful crazy quilt identifies Syrian Kurds and Aligned Forces, Syrian Government Forces, Islamic State Forces, Syrian Opposition Forces, Turkish Military Backed Forces, and some white areas for which evidently no one can hazard a guess. Remote from each other are two tiny circles labeled U.S./Coalition Military. The map does not account for Israeli airstrikes and threatened Turkish offensives into Syria against the Kurds. What an endless array of possible permutations for factions to fight each other with our handful of troops in the midst.

After analyzing available option for eight years, I wonder how one could have divined these few troops represented a meaningful involvement in the face of such turmoil for confronting Russia and Iran? A comprehensive ceasefire seems remote. Even if achieved, then where do you find the diplomatic skills needed to sort out the combatants into peaceful agrarian villages like you see on Star Trek?

When Mattis proclaims this feeble deployment is the bulwark invigorating an imperative for U.S. foreign policy, then we are well rid of him.

The decision to work with the Turkish government is fine.

I’ve read a lot of crap about the Muslim Brotherhood and Erdogan being a creep or terrorist.

But he’s no better or worse, maybe better than the Crown Prince and the backwards Saudi Arabia that is still living in medieval times in some ways.

If President Trump can be buddies with Saudi Arabia I see no reason why he can’t be buddies with Turkey.

Singer James Blunt has told the BBC how he refused an order to attack Russian troops when he was a British soldier in Kosovo. Blunt said he was willing to risk a court martial by rejecting the order from a US General.

But he was backed by British Gen Sir Mike Jackson, who said: “I’m not going to have my soldiers be responsible for starting World War III.”

To: plain talk

. I don’t think Trump suddenly decided to bail out of Syria based on a conversation with Turkey. Makes no sense.

I think it has far more to do with the ankle biters attacking Trump’s domestic and foreign policy on a daily basis. Rubio, Graham, etc. They don’t support him, why should he accommodate them? Trump’s patience has run out and 2020 is getting closer by the day.

My husband served under Clark. He wonders how the guy made triple under the zone promotions when every command he had was left a mess. A mess that someone else had to clean up and take the hit for.

Yep. As NATO commander. But the British general refused to carry out Wesley’s orders. Said he (the British general) wasn’t going to start WWIII.

IF Trump was being blackmailed out of Syria, the reason would be on the front page of the Washington Post already.

And everyone but the stupid already knows that.

Ergo, he’s not being blackmailed.

Just another brown-nosing NWO “general” posing as some type of person in power.

At least half of our military is of the same ilk above the rank of Colonel.

"Ergo, he’s not being blackmailed."

I guess they will have to move on to the next baseless smear then.
