LIVE on the Senate floor: Senators debate the short-term funding bill passed by the House last night. If the bill fails, it will trigger a government shutdown just before the Christmas holiday.
Maybe some Democrats withdraw their vote to give it an even split, then let the VP break the tie so they can move on?
Mitch can send US Marshals to arrest him and drag his ass back to DC.
That would look really interesting!
Since the very beginning, the Senate has fancied themselves "the greatest deliberative body in the world". So they allowed unlimited debate, thinking it would only be used for good, by giving everyone a chance to speak their mind, *completely* if need be, rather than anyone being cut off in mid-thought by an autocrat banging a gavel up at the front, telling them to shut up.
It wasn't until mid-19th century that some Senators discovered that this "sufficient debate-time must be guaranteed" rule could be abused as a loophole to prevent debate from ever stopping on some bill, preventing the bill from ever being brought to a vote.
Nice explanation!
TY, but as to the run down of the process, your tax dollars paid for that, since I just copied it from Congress’ website. :D
In looking at this live Senate floor waiting I noticed all the PAPER. I think they should have to go all digital like they want to force us to do...
Just checked in, no-one is there? Did they vote No and all go home ?
Someone here proposed that President Trump should let K Street know that any outfit who hires Flake as a lobbyist will be persona non grata with the Trump administration. Starve the bastard, or at least force him to a less lucrative after-Washington career.
I hope they shutdown all that unconstitutional sh!t and keep it that way.
Maybe he represents citizens from the planet between Jupiter and Neptune.
Saturn??
Well, the other one.
Due to my inept internet searching skills.
This is not about the wall for Democrats. It’s not even about immigration for Democrats. This is about denying pres. Trump a win on a signature agenda item that he promised the American people.
My same thought. If they want two years of zero bills, let them continue their obstruction.
Thought that was this years DOW Jones chart ....
I like your tag line. Texit.
The right of a state to secede at any time is the only thing that makes the United States of America a voluntary union. If it’s not a voluntary union, then we are not a truly self-governing Republic.
When the states ratified the constitution, having just spilled blood to unshackle themselves from England, and with the powerful words of the Declaration of Independence still ringing in everyone’s ears - surely every state’s ratification was conditional upon the right to secede at will. Would any have agreed to join a union they could not quit? Of course not.
Yet, all attempts at secession since the founding have been crushed - so do states have s right to secede, or not? I’d like to find out.
LOL!
