When you think of the sheer vindictiveness of what happened to Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, it takes your breath away. On the very night of his greatest career triumph, a reporter dug up his old tweets (composed when he was a young teenager), reported on the most offensive insults, and immediately and irrevocably transformed his online legacy. Now he’s not just “Kyler Murray, gifted quarterback and humble Heisman winner,” but also the man who was forced to apologize for his alleged homophobia. And for what purpose? Which cause did the reporter advance? Where was the cultural gain in Murray’s pain?
And he’s but the latest victim of a malicious online world that seeks to destroy people in the moment of their triumph. It’s happened to athletes, to entertainers, and even to “regular” folks who enjoy the slightest bit of fame or acclaim in the public eye. It’s almost a joke at this point — when are we going to find out that this person who did this wonderful thing is actually terrible on Facebook or dreadful on Twitter?
The incidents happen so fast, and the firings are so quick, that they start to blur together. Can you remember November’s victims? October’s? Who lost their jobs this summer? Who was forced to apologize this spring?

Totally agree....it’s a very strange world we live in....have an off-color joke captured on video or a night when drinking a bit too much left you saying and doing some cray stuff not fit for the camera and you’re marked forever. It’s craziness.
I am a nerd by anyone’s definition....a scientist and an author of a text book, and....well....a nerd. But have I said and done some stuff I would like to forget about? Absolutely. I am a human being.
Thank goodness there wasn’t a bunch of iphones to catch me at my worst moments. The world has always been a difficult place.....with the advent of social media....it’s become unbearable. I feel sorry for the 20 and 30 somethings.....they have to wear their mistakes forever...and it’s worse that not right....it’s cruel.

With the ground covered by the term ‘sexual assault’ these days, were it applied to my younger years, I’d be lucky to escape imprisonment, and certainly would be a registered sex offender today.

All people are not subject to this unforgiving attitude; certain people on the left can say things - violate all of the LEFT’S standards - and get away with it: Biden, Harry Reid, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and many others have made racial or “homophobic” or sexist or bigoted statements that would ruin any conservative.
Yeah really. The only thing I want to read from this a-hole is “I’m leaving the USA now.”
