Saturday's Today show on NBC spent almost two minutes highlighting an obituary for a suicide victim in Vermont that is part of an effort to encourage new laws that would require a 24-hour waiting period before purchasing a gun .....
Co-host Sheinelle Jones set up the segment by recalling that the CDC recently reported that the number of gun-related deaths per year is at the highest level in about 40 years.
Co-host Peter Alexander then added: "This morning, an obituary for a young man who took his own life is going viral, his parents now calling for stricter gun control so that other famlies might be able to avoid the same heartbreak."
Correspondent Tammy Leitner began the report with a soundbite of Alyssa Black, whose son, Andrew, bought a gun and then used it to commit suicide about four hours later. After noting that his obituary tells readers details about his life, Jones then added: "But the obit also included an unusual request -- that friends and family lobby state lawmakers to change the law and require a wait period for firearm purchases 'to provide a cooling off period to guard against impulsive acts of violence.'"
After reiterating the record number of gun-related suicides, Leitner then lamented: "Only nine states and the District of Columbia require a mandatory waiting period to purchase certain firearms. Vermont is not one of them."
Leitner then underscored: "Twenty-four hours that might have given their son a fighting chance."
Not mentioned was that those contemplating suicide can simply choose a different method as evidenced by the fact that a number of countries, like Japan, have more restrictive gun laws than the U.S., but still have higher suicide rates than the U.S.

Sure. My patent on gravity fell through.
I have seen that as well, along with people who seriously wounded themselves in other ways and either died after hours of excruciating pain or gave themselves other permanent disabling injuries.
If you chose to end your own life it does NOT take a gun.
Just shut yourself into your running CAR with NO ventilation. You will be DEAD shortly. DRINK A FULL QUART OF JACK TO HELP.
IDIOTS AGGRAVATE ME WITH THEIR STUPIDITY!
That's why I wouldn't use a gun either.....
Sleeping pills and a closed garage with car running would be my choice.......That was an uncle's way to go but he made his own choice due to the onset of alzheimers.
And if they want to do it by a gun all they have to do is to go to a shooting range and rent one. Then they put everyone else at the range in danger.
If you don’t mind the PAIN a bottle of Drano? or Bleach? Set yourself on fire after dousing with lighter fluid?
More ways exist.
Yup. Known too many. Sadly, guns were used in most cases.
How many people buy a gun and immediately kill themselves with it?
Easier to go to a gun range, rent the gun and do it right there
Meanwhile, there are large numbers of suicides in Japan, and none of them involve a firearm.
There is at least one range near me that will not allow a person they do not know rent a gun and go to the range without a range officer with them.
I am reminded of some city forty five years ago that put in handgun waiting periods to prevent suicides, Several people tried to buy but could not.
So they all found other ways to kill themselves.
The local police chief was thrilled his gun law worked because none of them shot themselves, yet they were still just as dead.
Cheaper too.
Suicide bad.
Excellent.
The hypocrisy of the Left in stark relief.
I would only add Assisted Suicide which is a favorite cause for the Left.
Suicide is Okay if you have a doctor say its cool.
I am not going to give people advice on the best ways to end their lives on this forum. If one is determined and does a little research there are painless ways to end their life which do not leave a mess for others to clean up.
Been on both ends. My neighbor’s son who appeared to not have a care in the world, good job, great girlfriend. Waited until she left for work and used a shot gun. She found him when she came home from work.
They don’t realize it is a selfish act. It brings as much pain and mental torture as a Homicide for those left behind. And we get no answers as to why either way.
Intractable Pain Community Suicides are UP 3.9% with the removal of pain meds. It even effects Cancer patients now. It’s been proven CDC lied over and over again. Same as these phony gun stories. ALL LIES.
I always plan my suicides well in advance.
A good friend shot himself with his wife present in a parking garage here in town. She seems to have been able to move on. My step grand-daughter’s (yeah, it’s complicated) boyfriend killed himself about this time last year with her present. She is having a really hard time with it. She thought she had removed all the ammo and magazines from his place but apparently she missed something. His parents are/were not kind to her in the aftermath. Yes, totally selfish!
Good to know. Let us know so we can avoid the area.
plenty o notice probably inside my condo away from windows. Low risk of collateral
