Ohio Congressman Warren Davidson thinks crowdfunding may provide a solution to the controversial proposal of building a wall on the Mexican border.
And, perhaps more notably, he suggested using a cryptocurrency to do so.
During an interview with NPRs Steve Inskeep, the U.S. lawmaker explained that he has already proposed letting the American public pay for the wall, which is opposed by Democrats but mades up a key aspect of President Donald Trumps list of 2016 campaign promises. In particular, Davidson told Inskeep, he has suggested a private funding program wherein the American people, or whomever should choose to donate, (including residents of Mexico) would be able to fund the walls construction.
He went on to add:
You could do it with sort of like a crowdfunding site or you could do a blockchain and you could have WallCoins, but you could raise the money and frankly if we get it right at the Treasury you could even pay with Mexican pesos....[snip]
Davidson is an outspoken supporter of the cryptocurrency space, having previously held a round-table event with more than 80 representatives from both the crypto and finance industries to discuss possible legislation for initial coin offerings.

Set up a fund to allow the public to donate. I’ll donate. Promise.
Me too.
If it wasn’t for still needing to get permission from the government to apply it and build it crowd funding would work.
Absolutely.
I actually bought a (bunch) of campaign gear in 2016 from a Trump office. I (never) do that. I would donate for the Wall.
Absolutely.
I’ll donate too.. but I’m not letting the dems off the hook for this treason.
We all KNOW how Mexico will pay for the wall. We’re gonna get paid back over time.
This is how things like this work.
On top of that, I have a much, much better design for a wall that will cost almost nothing compared to building this wall.
Pillboxes.
If the military is going to handle it, let the military handle it. It’s a matter of national security.
Tax the money sent back to Mejico....
Every place that says envia dinero a Mexico!!!!!!!!
Let’s also stop funding abortions. Let the libs buy special coins to fund that since it is so f-ing dear to their hearts.
Tit for tat, so to speak.
Or maybe the other side of the coin? (Couldn’t resist, sorry.)
We’ve been saying just go fund me the wall. And if prez announced a web page people would flick to it. Been saying this even here on FR for two damn years. Nice to see someone in govt act now like they have a big bright new idea.
This would be a great idea but it could be easily corrupted.
If it wasnt for still needing to get permission from the government to apply it and build it crowd funding would work.

Hmm. That’s true. Never forget we’re dealing with the Government.
We could crowdfund the wall in a DAY - but the Government would just say “thank you for the money!,” set up a committee to study how to “best use it,” then decide it’s more “responsible” to use it to kill more unborn babies, line the pockets of politicians (and their friends), provide more needles to drug addicts and set up re-education camps for people who offend other people with their ideas.
Why do the US Taxpayers have to pay?
U.S. pays $8 Billion a year to the UN.
Take that money and you have a wall paid for in 3 Years!
Oklahoma already does...
Absolutely... The problem I see is even with all the money in the world it will still have to go through the government bureaucracy to be implemented where it needs to go.
That’s a damn good idea.
They could tie it up for 20 years just doing “environmental impact studies” alone.
Put a checkbox on the 1040 to direct a portion of your taxes to a dedicated wall fund. Or to donate a part of your refund for the same thing.
Count me in.
Trump Wall foundation! Supported by those who want it? 5 Billion $$$$$? (That’s a lot of pay to play $$$ in the Clinton world.) You can feed a millions of leftists with that kind of $$$$ and help their cause. If successful it will blow the head tops off of many in the Enemedia. Maybe we can start a wall bond drive? I remember when I was in school as a kid, we could buy stamps at 25 cents each, and fill a book up when we reached 100, then we would get a bond. This could work the same way.
