On this day 77 years ago, Japan launched a surprise attack against a U.S. naval base in Pearl Harbor in the then-American territory of Hawaii. Over 2,400 Americans were killed, over 1,000 wounded on that day. The countries were not at war at the time. The next day, the U.S. Congress declared war against Japan. Speaking to a joint session of Congress, President Franklin D. Roosevelt (D) called the day of the attack "a date which will live in infamy." Three days later, Germany and Italy declared war against the U.S.; the U.S. then declared war against Germany and Italy. Thus did the U.S. enter into what was later called World War ll, which had been raging in Europe and elsewhere for over two years.
The shock of the attack, with not even a trigger warning, to use a modern term, did not send young people then to scurry to safe spaces, as many do today at the first sign of distress, such as, oh, say, their preferred candidate not winning the presidency or hearing ideas that upset them. Enduring hard times during the Depression years preceding that attack, people of all ages rushed to sign up for the military.

Perhaps as a result of massive geologic and/or weather event or an overt military attack by a large power.
Perhaps.
Otherwise, I fear we're headed for another 1860.
Not if, but when.
“The Japanese began the war from the air at Pearl Harbor. They have been repaid many fold.” - Harry S. Truman, August 6, 1945.
America came together for a few weeks after 9/11, until liberals started saying that we deserved it, or Bush did it, or Israel did it, or anything other than we were attacked unjustly by Muslim fanatics.
Actually it seems to me it was about six months when many flags were flown and churches were full. Then, business as usual led by Congress. The one thing I gave George W. credit for was being a good wartime president. Other than that, not so hot.
I remember how the left almost immediately blamed America (and Israel) and they went into overtime excusing Islam.
I wore my 911 shirt today. I wasn’t around for Pearl Harbor.
Only difference is... contrary to 1860, the only way this country can survive is to split.
“What if we came together for a couple years? “
We did after 9/11...for a couple weeks.
“The one thing I gave George W. credit for was being a good wartime president. “
Good at starting an unnecessary war.
I was 8-years old and still remember anger expressed by my family... My Dad, father of two kids, joined the Marines 4-months later to avoid being drafted into the Navy... He hated being on or in boats...
Obama and the Fauxcohantas Democrats would blame FDR’s overly harsh sanctions for driving the Japanese to do it. They would demand “diplomacy” and “negotiations” instead of war. They’d probably label him a racist along the way. I mean, he didn’t ask for a declaration of war against the white Germans, did he, only the Asians?
And 17 years later..................... Still chuggin’.
About 2500 dead Americans started WWII so 3000 dead Americans wouldn’t?
I say this because this is exactly how it played out starting on 9/12/01.
Other discussions aside, this is a good day to remember those lost, @ Pearl Harbor and the following months and years. Prayers are in order, too.
As one, I honor other vets everyday. Past, present and future. My oath has no BEST BY date on it. Or USE BY date.
One of the reasons Japan did it was because that generation of fighting aged American men were thought of as lazy, oversexed and immature.
Turns out, they just needed purpose.
What is true before will always be true forever.
