President Trump has nominated a "brilliant man" to replace Jeff Sessions as attorney general, the president said outside the White House Friday. He has tapped William Barr, former attorney general for the late President George H. W. Bush, for the position.
BREAKING; “I think he will serve with great distinction.” President Trump announces William Barr as new attorney general pic.twitter.com/mKzYDZgNj9— TODAY (@TODAYshow) December 7, 2018
Trump said he "did not know" Barr until recently, but found him to be respected by lawmakers from both partIes. He predicted the process will go "very quickly."
However, Democrats have hinted that they will make the nomination process a nightmare for Barr, considering his past criticisms about special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. He has also reportedly suggested that Hillary Clinton's role in the Uranium One scandal was more worthy of investigation than Russian collusion.
The Mueller probe has been an Achilles heel for the office of attorney general the past couple of years. When Jeff Sessions felt pressured to recuse himself from the investigation because Democrats didn't like an answer he gave during a congressional hearing, Trump never let him forget it, calling him "weak" and "beleaguered."
.....up to this point, his GOPe staffing decisions have amounted to the wisdom of keeping rattlesnakes securely in your pocket.
if you care that much, go back to the time and read the HUNDREDS of gushing posts about him.
Lie to yourself, not reality.
AlabaME and a southern twang DONT automatically mean good man and fierce conservative.
We learned that with sessions AND the election of a Dem to senator.
I did not know him at the time and just went with what i read here.
Big mistake
He was a POS.
Syncro, it has NEVER been done before. The closest to it is that in 1994, a Senator who was acting as the Presiding Officer announced an Adjournment or Recess during a Quorum vote.
So, it did not need a vote to adjourn or recess.
Because the VP is the constitutional President, or Presiding Officer, of the Senate, he has the constitutional power to do it. He also has the constitutional power to decide all inquires about the constitutionality of it. He would out-rank the Parliamentarian. Bwahahahahaha!
But again, it has never been done before. If Trump & Pence tried it, it would be a nuclear war in the Senate. And I might be under-estimating that. LOL.
It would also give Democrats in the House the leverage to impeach both Trump AND Pence. For conspiracy to do something or other.
.... and the Evil Globals rejoice.
Sure wish Trump would quit picking Bush establishment types for his cabinet. He ran as an outsider so he should pick an outsider!
Thanks
Both dems and gops have their fingers on the nuke button already
Impeach45: they actually don’t have a case but may try it anyway.
Another distraction and who knows if they do it the senate may convict him. Lots of turncoats in the Senate
I’d love to see the @POTUS tweets if they did start impeachment procedures! Ha ha
Oh and you know the dems, all they need is to accuse him of anything major and they will say it doesn’t matter if it is true or not, it’s the seriousness of the crime in the false accusation that matters. SOP for dems.
Of course the madder Trump gets at the dems for their stupid stuff the more chance they will slip up and reveal their dark souls even more than they have already.
Have a Nice Merry Christmas!
It’s not my handle, but I am Saved By Grace also...
I wish he had originally picked Barr and that Sessions remained a Senator from Alabama.
“Show me one person who qualifies as base and floated Sessions name for AG before Trump did - which was the claim made (The base was screaming for Sessions.).”
I know I didn’t. I knew what we were up against. Never in my wildest imagination did I figure sessions was a deepstate rat bastard plant who insinuated himself into the Trump campaign to bring it down.
I liked when Joe Lieberman supported the president’s actions in Iraq. The other 98% of his beliefs and actions were pure scumbag liberalism.
Barr being right about one thing doesn’t gloss over his deep state ties.
Anyone with bi partisan support at this point is probably a hack. I pray for the best for Trump. I think he should pick people who are critics of the departments they are taking over. I don’t think that’s what this pick does. I guess the increased numbers in the Senate are for naught
Did you think of that line all by yourself, or did your mommy help you?
Too bad FR does not have an “ignore” or “block” feature, so you could never have to see any more posts by these freaking pearl-clutching, gas-lighting trolls. I’ve a long list of Trump-hating jackasses, here on FR, whose posts I would very much like to never see again.
Who are you calling a “one hit wonder?” Trump? You need to make your sentences less ambiguous.
He so often howls from the “heights” of arrogance that he frequently falls into the bowels of hypocrisy.
As I recall, the Democrats booed God in mass at their 2016 convention.
with a resume like that, how was he ever considered fit for an appointment by a Bush?
The wall is in process in places.
I will reserve judgement in toto until I know more; he is undoubtedly of the swamp, but I want to hold out hope that his previous public comments hold merit. Then again, you have to consider that PDJT hasn’t explicitly gone back on any promises yet so I think we owe him a small bit of wiggle room.
I’d be happy to get this Mueller thing over and done with but I’d be ecstatic to see hillary and king obama in prison!
