A Promising Male Birth Control Trial Is Finally Happening, But Some Women Are Furious
Science Alert ^ | 11-6-2018 | CAROLINE PRADERIO

A large clinical trial launched this week will test a new, gel-based form of male birth control, Gizmodo reported Friday.

If it proves safe and effective, the gel could finally expand the very short list of contraceptive options that can be utilised by men.

"Many women cannot use hormonal contraception and male contraceptive methods are limited to vasectomy and condoms," study investigator Diana Blithe, said in a statement from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is funding the trial.

"A safe, highly effective and reversible method of male contraception would fill an important public health need."

The gel, applied to the back and shoulders once daily, contains a combination of a progestin compound and testosterone that is absorbed through the skin.

The progestin reduces sperm production to "low or nonexistent levels," the NIH statement said, while the testosterone will work to maintain normal sex drive and other functions that require the hormone. The researchers plan to enroll 420 couples in the trial, the statement added.

Y'all don't understand how angry I am about this, fine to prod us with needles and implants and alter our hormones every day but first male birth control and it's a simple and convenient GEL, I'm outta here https://t.co/mSdSg7Togj

Well... I’ve had no shortage of painfully inserted IUDs dislodge and stab my uterus, but yes, let’s invent a birth control GEL for men. #maleprivilege

Male birth control is going to be rubbing a gel on your shoulders?! Nah y’all can swallow a pill every single night, get injections & implants like the rest of us.

With some, although they won’t come out and say it, they dislike losing the power to have Ooops pregnancies.

The greatest form of birth control is to actually HAVE children...more than one

 au contraire mon frère

We're designed by the Creator to procreate and when a marriage is in tune with their purpose, the crescendo is real and it's spectacular.

And another thing, pregnancy sex with it's hormone fluctuations and increased blood supply and flow, can blow your mind.

But don't listen to me, I'm a blessed father of twelve and I have to have special therapy just to uncurl my toes many many times a month and not unusually in a single day.

Avoid all forms of BC like the plague and invert the pernicious concept of NFP to know when 110% effort is welcome. Eat well and get plenty of rest and exercise, you'll need the stamina. Save those creams for the sex offenders and reprobates.

I’ve got news for the women complaing: If they’re not using a barrier method, they may be safe from pregnancy, but not a number if other conditions, some much longer lasting and potentially lethal.

That's it. But you're missing an even bigger point, one which gives the whole game away.

Abortion, they say, is all about the right of a sloot woman to control what she does with her own body. Who in Hell do these Whores think they are, presuming to tell a MAN what he can do with HIS own body?

(The answer is *your* point. Without discreet, known-only-to-the-woman contraception, and the risk of "oops" pregnancies to give her power to compel his commitment (and abortion as a backdrop should that fail), it would be clear to EVERYONE that they're just being used!)

" Wonder if it smells?"

Yeah...They already have a gel that prevents pregnancy.

Women are mostly mad because they can no longer control whether they get pregnant.

Got you beat. 150 employees of which 7 were men. The 3 maintenance guys in their 50s, a Romanian in his 60s who panned all the sugar coated stuff, the owner and me at 25. 1/3rd old bitties and the rest early 20’s to 40ish. It was an education. Most women are crazy, mean, dumb as a stump, insanely vindictive and easily offended. It was worse than herding cats. Managing them was a job I was too young and dumb to realize was impossible so I just did it.

Nurses are a little tougher constitutionally and fun to work with but, (ugh!) the whining...

A pill to me seems simpler than gel on the shoulders.

But really, do men or women want more progestin in men?

This will end in disaster and lawsuits.

Didn’t they learn their lesson from testosterone replacement the first time? It causes your body to quit making it’s own, and spurs various cancers.

Don’t mess with your hormones. I watched my father undergo hormone treatments for his prostate cancer, and the side effects were brutal.
