A large clinical trial launched this week will test a new, gel-based form of male birth control, Gizmodo reported Friday.
If it proves safe and effective, the gel could finally expand the very short list of contraceptive options that can be utilised by men.
"Many women cannot use hormonal contraception and male contraceptive methods are limited to vasectomy and condoms," study investigator Diana Blithe, said in a statement from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is funding the trial.
"A safe, highly effective and reversible method of male contraception would fill an important public health need."
The gel, applied to the back and shoulders once daily, contains a combination of a progestin compound and testosterone that is absorbed through the skin.
The progestin reduces sperm production to "low or nonexistent levels," the NIH statement said, while the testosterone will work to maintain normal sex drive and other functions that require the hormone. The researchers plan to enroll 420 couples in the trial, the statement added.

Y'all don't understand how angry I am about this, fine to prod us with needles and implants and alter our hormones every day but first male birth control and it's a simple and convenient GEL, I'm outta here https://t.co/mSdSg7Togj

Well... Ive had no shortage of painfully inserted IUDs dislodge and stab my uterus, but yes, lets invent a birth control GEL for men. #maleprivilege

Male birth control is going to be rubbing a gel on your shoulders?! Nah yall can swallow a pill every single night, get injections & implants like the rest of us.

Oh, come on guys. This is a scam.
“Rubber? Babe I don’t need no rubber, just give me a backrub with this gel... No, really, girl, it’s science. Here look at this article in this real science magazine...”
The majority of women don't have these same sentiments about men as these angry hags do. These hateful feminists are the exceptions, not the rule. So just ignore them.
Count your blessings that you will not be dating or marrying any of them. They're not relationship material.
I showed their comments to my wife and she just laughed and rolled her eyes.
Ain’t that the truth. 8>)
Why 420?
Looks to me like this is a real threat to the abortion industry. Haha.
LOL!
The best form of birth control is for a man to stare at a photograph of Elizabeth Warren for a few minutes.
He’ll lose interest in sex for 2 - 4 weeks.
So many lies... so many fallacies... so much hate!
1. This isn't the FIRST form of male birth control (condoms, vasectomies, etc.)
2. The first form of FEMALE birth control was not "The Pill," the I.U.D., or subcutaneous implants. (The ancient Egyptians wrote of using pessaries (diaphragms) including a lump of crocodile scat.)
3. This new gel alters the man's hormone balance.
4. Of course male birth control should theoretically be simpler, since we have outdoor plumbing (easier to access for surgical methods) and since fertilization, implantation of the fertilized egg in the woman's endometrium, and thus pregnancy all occur in the female's body.
Well... Ive had no shortage of painfully inserted IUDs dislodge and stab my uterus, but yes, lets invent a birth control GEL for men. #maleprivilege
Yes, since a painful, dangerous method of male birth control would be so much more popular, and successful! /s
And since when is it fair to accuse someone of "privilege" / blame them for something they have no control over, like the gender they were born with?
Male birth control is going to be rubbing a gel on your shoulders?! Nah yall can swallow a pill every single night, get injections & implants like the rest of us.
Such bitterness! Actually, I think I'd prefer swallowing a pill to rubbing a gel all over my back and shoulders.
Regards,
Make it smell like Old Spice and it will sell like hotcakes.
Maybe, but if the child is born, DNA is there to tell the truth.
My first reaction was: Progestin? Really? That hormone is a depressant. Made me really depressed and anxious, especially in the synthetic form. It does that for quite a few of us ladies. I don’t know how the male hormone receptors will react to it, but I have my doubts. I have been down that road and it was neither fun nor safe.
Doesnt matter, women will always find a way to be unhappy for anything useful for men.
These are the same women who complain there’s no birth control pill or treatment for men.
Now there could be one and they find a way to complain about it.
I see paternity and child support payments going down, Inbelieve they fear that because men who do not want to get raped in family court will be far better at making sure they take their birth control than women who pull an “oopsie” or “i forgot” on them.
We’ve had the best form of male birth control for decades: the fast-food assistant manager uniform.
You winz Teh Internetz.
Forever.
Admin, please verify that this is the real Laz...
;-)
Which reminds me. Haven't these Harpies heard of the Lewinsky method of birth control?
Lord, I would never have sex with these harpies to begin with.
Who are you, and what have you done to Laz?!
The levels of entitlement, resentment, and rage are bizarre.
All over something they have no control over.
Leftists are born angry.
There is quite a bit of research to confirm that.
---------------------
Angry Western Leftist women are made not born. They are groomed and made to feel this level of anger and hatred toward anything male. Bombarded with the anger and resentment toward men who are often looking for a simple caring relationship and this is what they have on offer. And in moments of weakness they wonder why men aren't interested in them?
The science of birth control advances and changes with new ideas and developments but all they can see through their feminist eyes is......more male disrespect and double standards. They are a lost cause like most other Leftists.
Snowflakes in meltdown.
