Democrats Change 181 Year-Old Rule To Allow Ilhan Omar To Wear Hijab In The House
Citizen Free Press ^ | 12/2/18 | Kane

For 181 years, the U.S. House of Representatives has imposed a ban on its members wearing head coverings. With Ilhan Omar, one of the first Muslim women to be elected to Congress, set to take her oath of office in January, that rule—which would have prohibited her wearing her customary headscarves or the hijab—is slated to change.

The change was proposed jointly by Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, Incoming Rules Chairman Jim McGovern and member-elect Ilhan Omar as part of a larger overhaul package.

When Omar is sworn in next year, she will become the first federal legislator to wear a religious headscarf. Her arrival will mark a number of other “firsts” as well. The Minnesota Democrat will be the first Somali-American in Congress and the first woman of color to represent her state in Washington. She’ll be joined by fellow Midwestern Democrat, Michigan’s Rashida Tlaib, as the first two Muslim women in Congress.

Hats of any kind have been banned from the House floor since 1837.

PS: I wear my Magan David neckless under my uniform shirt and it always goes >bing< when going through TSA security. I love it when it’s a muzzie TSA agent and I tell them to go pound sand.

Let’s take Article V out for a spin before rolling the dice of revolution. Start with repeal of the 17th Amendment.

Even Texan should wear cowboy hats. Being a Texan is a religion. Texas - it’s not just a state. It’s a state of mind.

If we don’t soon declare as a country that islam is not a religion, but an ideology masquerading as a religion we will soon find our country in the theocratic ditch. We do not award these concessions to Nazis, Maoists or Fascists.

islam is simply hiding behind our religious freedom laws and then using them against us.

John Quincy Adams took his presidential oath of office on a law book, not a Bible. The Constitution doesn't require that an oath be taken on any particular book. In fact, it doesn't even require an oath of office-- it says "oath or affirmation."

The Quran forbids women from participating in politics.

Does she take her religion seriously? Yes or no?

A couple of years ago we went to Kenya to visit National Parks. Our guide was a Kenyan named James...excellent guide, great guy.During the long drives from Nairobi to the parks far to the south I got to talking with him about Kenya and Kenyan politics.Long story short...he pointed out in the clearest of term just what a nightmare it was for Kenya to have as many illegal Somalis in the country (Kenya shares a border with Somalia). The things he had to say about them made MS-13 look like Boy Scouts by comparison.

What happened to separation of church and state?

This is a direct conflict.

She should be denied this request and let her take it up with the Supreme Court.

I could be wrong but I seem to remember Bella Abzug wearing hats on the House floor.

She never wore a hat in Congress. She was never without a hat outside of it. That was her trademark.
