President George H. W. Bush Blamed the Fed for his 1992 Reelection Loss – And the Fed is Doing ..

The Fed has done all they can to derail Republican Presidents for the past half century. President George H. W. Bush blamed the Fed for his loss in 1992.

George H. W. Bush believed balancing the budget was his top priority, but his efforts to do so were constantly hindered by his “no new taxes” pledge. He held conservative views on government spending and believed that issues like homelessness and crime were important, but that the government should not use more tax money to fix such issues.

Bush agreed to a budget agreement in 1990 which looked to the long-run for balancing the budget with the deficit reduction beginning some two years after the agreement was put into effect. The initial actions of the Fed and the President’s views on Fed involvement at the beginning of his administration were unclear, but Bush eventually favored the idea of the Fed supporting the economy by reducing rates. However, the Fed’s actions were too late for him as he lost the election.

The current Federal funds rate is 2.20% right now.

It was over 9% when GHWB was inaugurated in January 1989, and dropped consistently for nearly four years -- until it was below 3% by Election Day in 1992.

The author of this slop is 100% full of sh!t.

Yep. Can Trump fire the chairman?

I heard Bush begged Greenspan to cut rates. He wouldn’t do it. But he cut the rates right after Clinton was sworn in. Greenspan is married to an nbc “reporter”.

“No new taxes” wasn’t hindering any such thing. Taxes were too high as it was.

The government has a spending problem—it doesn’t and didn’t suffer from insufficient confiscation of citizens’ wealth.

Hoft has always been appallingly careless, even though he’s a stalwart for the larger cause.

GHWB had a 6.2% GDP but broke his 'read my lips, no new blow jobs' until my next "son" is in the white whore hut promise.

When H. Ross Perot, ran and then didn't, his 20% killed bush. Bush would have won, but trying to make a deal with the demonRATS, raise taxes and cut spending, he only got what he deserved, higher taxes, and they shoved it up his ass on the cut spending.

You cannot make deal with the demonRATs, they lie, cheat and steal.

Agreed. Bush’s ‘L’-shaped recovery, his lazy choice of Schultz [who didn’t want it] to run a re-election campaign, and ‘compassionate conservatism’ combined to make this voter pull the lever for Perot.

Bush ‘41 lost the election because Ross Perot siphoned off enough repub votes to saddle America with the Clinton plague...which is still with us today.

Thanks, Ross, you moron.

That is also patently false. Do the research and see what the Fed rates were over the course of the last 30 years.

I'll never understand Rs who think the Perot vote belonged to Bush. I've yet to meet a Perot voter who would have voted for Bush had he not been in.

He should have blamed the Democrat shills in the so-called “news” media for reporting on a routine, indeed minor, economic down cycle as thought it was the return of the Great Depression.

A lot of people fell for that.

Bush 41 lost the 1992 election because he was an aloof, detached, dull man who had less charisma than a dog turd.

I never gave a crap about not balancing the budget after a war that detroyed the fourth largest army in the world.

I cared about vowing that the world would unite in a new world order with sovereignty ceded to the U.N. and about not finishing the job in Iraq and dismantling the border enforcement measures Reagan had put in place.

No, Bush’s loss wasn’t about taxes...just as Islam is not a religion of peace.

And so far, each successive member of the Bush family gets worse and worse. George P. makes his father, uncle, and Grandfather look like patriotic models of American values.

“Read my lips, no new taxes.” Proof that you should be very wary when making deals with the Democrats. Remember this when people talk about comprehensive immigration reform. Democrats will lie.

There was Bush's gaffe at the grocery store scanner that reinforced the image of how out of touch he was.

So they would have voted for Clinton? Or not at all?

Not at all since they had the opportunity to vote for either.
