A 1980 movie predicted the ongoing battle for control between Trump and Old Establishment Types

The Movie was called “Caddyshack.”

If you are not familiar with this important and predictive movie you may be able to view a few poignant clips on Youtube, and/or, it will probably be on one your cable channels this Saturday afternoon, and every Saturday afternoon after that until the end of time; which is a good thing.

The two main Protagonists are Al Czervik (played by Rodney Dangerfield) and Judge Smails (played by Ted Baxter.)

Al Czervik is a Wealthy-Property-Developer who upsets the status quo with his occasionally boorish, yet mostly harmless behavior, when he somehow manages to get himself ensconced in an exclusive private country club called Bushwood. The Al Czervik character is essentially Donald Trump.

Czervik/Trump has no allegiance to long established members/interests in Bushwood/Washington DC, and is not constrained by traditions in his determination as to whether Bushwood is turned into Condos or the Washington DC swamp is drained.

Judge Smails is a law and order type Judge who wants nothing more than to preserve the vaunted traditions of Bushwood. Although Judge Smails presents the veneer of an unimpeachable character, his public facade is laid bare when his subordinates become the witnesses to his willingness to not play by the rules on his daily excursions on the golf course. Robert Mueller is Judge Smails.

Smails/Mueller singular motivation is to remove Czervik/Trump from Bushwood/Washington DC. Their pursuits are relentless, even if it means breaking the rules. As Judge Smails points out, betting is against the rules at Bushwood, but in the same breath, he agrees to a $100,000 wager. Mueller's underhanded attempts to dangle offers of reduced punishments for process offenses in exchange for testimony that matches his pre-written narrative may or may-not be illegal, nevertheless the willingness to violate the spirit of established rules and decorum severely destroys the willingness of the "non-elite" to comply with any club rule. Lou Loomis (Bryan Doyle Murray) was acutely aware of the betting prohibition at Bushwood, and he gleefully ignored it.

Porterhouse: "Fifty bucks says the Smails kid picks his nose."

Lou: "You're on. Porterhouse."

Caddyshack’s themes, sub-plots, and other characters are also reminiscent of current events. Other Notable characters include:

I'm not a movie guy, but I did see a clip of Rodney Dangerfield in college giving lessons to his classmates about how the 'real world' works. He sounded like Trump.

While I like the analysis the best movie character a I have seen that best comes across as Trump is in the 1980 movie, “Just Tell Me What You Want”.

Alan King, best role he ever had, plays Financier, Industrialist, Real Estate Tycoon Max Hershel. Everything is for sale and everything is a deal to be negotiated.

This is much closer to real life Donald Trump than anything I have seen and it is a fun movie to watch.

I think the movie IDIOCRACY better describes the times we live in.

Could be. Dwayne Johnson is considering a run for POTUS.

This is brilliant. I'm in tune with it.

Add a few bells and this could be a Christmas story.

You are not the only one to agree with this theory. Though your article is far more detailed and in depth. Go HERE.

“Lou Loomis (Bryan Doyle Murray)”

Was Brian’s name spelled that way in the same Trivial Pursuit version owned by Brian’s son, the Bubble Boy?

I have seen Trivial Pursuit Cards misprinted.

A guy I know once tried to win a game by claiming the “Moops” invaded Spain.

so POTUS is Al Czervik the real estate mogul ?

Al Czervik exclaimed -“I tell ya, golf courses and cemeteries are the biggest wastes of prime real estate”.

POTUS loves golf courses....

For a better example of Trump, here he is in “Back to School” on the first day of Business class.
