Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) abruptly stepped aside on Thursday to allow his House Freedom Caucus ally, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), to run uncontested for the ranking member role on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee -- a position that he won.
Jordan, who won the race with no other competitors to challenge him, is expected to be a fierce defender of President Trump when Democrats take control of the panel next Congress. They are expected to become involved in a series of investigations into the Trump administration.
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and two GOP lawmakers on the steering committee confirmed that Jordan won.
"The steering committee unanimously selected Jim Jordan to be our next ranking member. And I think he's going to do a great job and thought that it was a good move by the committee," Scalise told The Hill. "You never know what good things will happen along the way in these interviews."
The move is a stunning turn of events amid buzz that Meadows was vying uncontested for the role in the lead up to the steering committee vote.
Meadows arrived to the steering committee carrying a binder, which likely contained a layout of his vision for the panel. And part way into the meeting, Jordan entered the closed door meeting.

I like Jordan in any leadership spot they can get him into.
Meadows has to be in line for ...???
This is good. I think Jordan will be happier serving in this role vs as Speaker of the House. Nancy is frothing to get that gavel back in her knotted claws. She plans to ride herd over any RNC Speaker who does not quickly bow to her partisan demands.
How to deal with Nancy? Three ways at least: A. Match her firey rhetoric, returning shot for shot.
B. Ignore her claims meant to rally the Dem party, and keep direct contact to the bare minimum.
C. Out strategize her. Think of the martial art of Judo, where one’s customary strengths can often be used against that person. Selectively provoke her to reveal the actual motivations and goals of the democrat party. The real opinions the Dems hold about minorities.
The main thing we want is for Nan to get the gavel. She’s a gaff machine.
WTF? 5-6 weeks?
Good strategy.....and we already know Trump is a master at provoking.
Jordan is a good man,IMHO.
Sadly, Pelosi will do whatever she wants to push her communist agenda.
Jordan, et al can scream & shout but, in the end, Pelosi will get her anti-American/anti-MAGA agenda thru.
The D’KKKrats have the majority in House. Nothing can stop that monster...except Declassifying documents that can lead to their arrests.
It’s one thing to throw bombs and quite another to lead, even in the minority. I think this is Jordan’s chance to lead and to show the GOP caucus that he has what it takes to be Speaker of the House when the Republicans return to the majority.
When, oh when are those buttholes who do nothing but take up space in DC start doing the job they were sent to Washington to do? Since Trump was elected, we see/here nothing but talk of “investigations” against Trump and his people. Enough already! Get back to work and do something that is GOOD for the country instead of constantly bashing Trump for this or that. Trump was elected by WE, The People. I am solidly sick of hearing all their crap. GO TO WORK, DO YOUR JOBS!
I wonder how they’re able to have leadership elections where the outgoing members get to vote and the incoming members have no vote?
The house proposes the senate disposes.
Yes, of course.
That said...
Pelosi’s “House of Horrors” will function as KGB/Stasi in its’ “investigations” and, sadly, will be unimpeded in relentlessly attacking our Constitutional Republic.
I know. I really really hate to see it happen. It is what it is though. One must muddle through as best one can and see what turns up at the end of the day, usually a mixed bag.
