Nevada Gov.-elect Steve Sisolak (D) is pushing to rename a Las Vegas airport after former Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who is battling pancreatic cancer.
Lawmakers in Nevada have been aiming to rename the McCarran International Airport after Reid, citing his prominence in the state's political history, as well as former Sen. Patrick McCarran's problematic legacy. McCarran was an avowed fascist and he has been accused of espousing racist and anti-Semitic ideals.
Sisolak said during a meeting on Tuesday that he intends to name the McCarren International Airport after Reid, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He also said he will push to rename Reno-Tahoe International Airport after the late Sen. Paul Laxalt (R), the grandfather of Sisolak's Republican opponent in the governor's race, Adam Laxalt.
[Laxalt and Reid] both made massive contributions to the long-term well-being of the state of Nevada, and sometimes we dont recognize people appropriately, Sisolak said.
Reid, who announced he was retiring from the Senate in 2015, spoke during his final floor speech about his wish to change the McCarran International Airport's name.
Ive tried for years to get the name taken off, a Democratic senator from Nevada who was an awful man," Reid said, according to Roll Call. "I tried to get his name off of that. It didnt work."
He noted that McCarran Airport is the fifth-busiest airport in the U.S.
Nevada state Sen. Tick Segerblom, who championed a bill in 2017 that would have renamed the facility to the Harry Reid Las Vegas International Airport, estimated the name change would cost about $1.5 million. He said it could be paid for by private contributions, according to the Review-Journal.
To sweeten the poison the rat Governor-(s)Elect is also proposing renaming the Reno-Tahoe airport after Paul Laxalt (R). The decision appears to rest with the Clark and Washoe county governments, respectively.
Pat McCarran was no fascist, this slur seems to stem from his support for Francisco Franco, who also wasn't a fascist, against the commie scum. He was a conservative democrat who opposed the new deal (at least in part) and was a staunch anti-communist and prophetic opponent of limitless immigration. He hid a lot for aviation and absolutely deserves to have the airport named for him.
I wouldn't name the nastiest truckstop bathroom after Reid.
Ping
If they want to name it after Nevadans that mattered, better to go with Wayne Newton International or Jerry Tarkanian Field than replacing one awful man with an even worse one. :)
It is because Reid helped him with voter fraud on this election.
However badly Reid is currently suffering, why in heck would anybody sane name anything after that Commie Crook.
I sincerely hope that he beats his cancer, however, after which, he can live in the infamy that he rightly deserves.
Black Eye Fat Lip Airfield?
Tired of seeing things be named after politicians. Why don’t they sell naming rights with reasonable guidelines. Maybe, considering it is Vegas, rename it Trojan International Airport.
"Now arriving at GoDaddy International Airport."
F NO !!!!!
If they want to name it after some one who really put Las Vegas on the map, they should name it after BUGSY SEIGEL.
Dingy Harry International Airport
Name the airport for Bugsy Seigal. He deserves the credit.
I detest when government boobs decide to name things after other government boobs, particularly while they are still taking in oxygen.
Reid is a scumbag and mob puppet. He’s not fit to hold Pat McCarran’s jock.
That will surely give it a "black eye."
Pun intended.
Treadmill International
Hairy Weed Airport "We Fly High" |
If they can’t name the entire airport, maybe the exercise room can be named after him. Just stock it with a bunch of rubber band exercisers.
That works.
If the name were to read “Dingy Harry Reid International Airport” I think I could conditionally endorse it.
“It is because Reid helped him with voter fraud on this election.”
Not just this one. Any election in Clark County is questionable and Sisolak was the Commissioner. He’s got to name his successor also.
