Matthew Whitaker doesnt have to fire Robert Mueller to throw a wrench in the special counsels investigation.
Much of the focus on President Trumps appointment of Whitaker to temporarily replace former Attorney General Jeff Sessions has been on the possibility of Whitaker removing Mueller, a move that would undoubtedly spark public outrage and trigger full-scale investigations by Democrats, who are poised to take control of the House in January.
ADVERTISEMENT But federal regulations offer Whitaker, now acting attorney general, broad authority with respect to the special counsel that extends beyond the ability to remove Mueller, giving him the ability to curtail the probe in ways that would not necessarily become public knowledge until after the Russia investigation is over.
Whitaker has the power to weigh in on any major steps in the probe, such as the issuance of new subpoenas and indictments.
Should he remain at the helm of the Justice Department until the conclusion of the investigation, it will be up to Whitaker to decide which portions, if any, of Muellers final report are submitted to Congress or released to the public.
He has a lot of authority, starting with his authority to remove Mueller if he finds he has good cause for doing so under the relevant regulation, said Stephen Vladeck, a University of Texas law professor. There are both hard and soft powers that the relevant regulation gives to the acting attorney general.

Untold millions of our tax dollars wasted to provide Democrats and CNN with wet dreams. Yup, that works.... /s
I hope Whitaker rides Mueller hard and puts him up wet
(and I don’t mean that in the biblical sense...).
Public outrage means media outrage. I think the public has had enough.
the possibility of Whitaker removing Muelle>>>>>>>>
Remove and Replace, then go after Hilolita and the Clinton Foundation where the real Russian Collusion happened.
“Public outrage means media outrage”
An important truth.
“a move that would undoubtedly spark public outrage and trigger full-scale investigations by Democrats, who are poised to take control of the House in January.”
Well, they’re already outraged, and they have already announced they have planned those investigations, regardless of what happens.
What’s good for the gander is good for the goose.
So if Mueller is investigating Trump with a fine tooth comb, looking under every rock, then it’s equally fair that the DOJ can appoint another investigator to go after the Clinton Foundation with the same mission.
For Trump to achieve this kind of public leverage, I suspect Mueller will be at his job for a very long time.
And I suspect some on Mueller’s investigation team will be indicted by investigation #2.
The House Republicans need to start an investigation of Mueller and his Clintoon KY Cowboys to find out what all their probing is all about.
Has Mueller been seen in public after his alcoholic bender?
Sort of what I’ve been thinking about Whitaker. He ends up just quietly and carefully applying a wet blanket to the whole thing.
1st tool is a question to Mueller.
Question: It has been nearly 2 years. What crimes have you found involving Donald Trump?
Part two: Everything you have found points to the Clintons and obama. When are you indicting them for treason and bribery etc?
