Mr. Trumps sidestepping of reports that the C.I.A. believes that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered the killing as Maybe he did and maybe he didnt! was jarring. But every president since Harry Truman has aligned with unsavory Middle Eastern rulers in the service of national interests. The difference here is that Mr. Trump seemed unapologetic about this state of affairs with only a passing nod to the affront to our values that Mr. Khashoggis murder represents.
Thats nothing to cheer. But it is vitally important to evaluate the policy on its merits more than its mode of expression. And the truth is that on the big strategic questions, Mr. Trump is cleareyed and right.
...
Mr. Trumps critics counter with the claim that he is emboldening evil. Samantha Power, former ambassador to the United Nations, cited autocrats like Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt and Vladimir Putin of Russia, in addition to Prince Mohammed, in saying that Trumps siding with the meanest and nastiest out there will leave the world even nastier.
...
Notably absent from Ms. Powers list of evildoers, however, are Iran and its proxies. The omission is telling. As part of its pivot toward Iran and away from the Sunni states and Israel, the Obama administration turned a blind eye to the slaughter in Syria that Moscow, Tehran and its proxies unleashed, and, thanks to the nuclear deal, delivered countless billions to the Iranian war machine.
His critics would say that Mr. Trump is now similarly emboldening a reckless Saudi regime.
This is a false analogy. The Saudis are not the moral equivalents of Iranians and the Russians.

Over 30 reporters have been MURDERED IN MEXICO, and we don’t hear any complaints from the MSM, do we?
When it isn't what you wanted to hear.;-)
Exactly correct!
Yes. This Times article pretends to defend Trump, but in fact is full of lies. The Crown Prince is a friend of the West and democracy, and the guy who was killed was a Muslim terrorist of the worst kind.
No surprise that a Muslim terrorist did some work for the Washington Compost. I don’t think he was ever actually a journalist, but he slipped them some of the usual evil Muslim advice.
What the hell is the CIA doing, when they report something to the press. A spy agency should never be talking to the press. When the swamp is releasing press releases, we have a coupe.
Trump chose to maintain the status quo with the Saudis, which given the limited set of alternatives isn't necessarily a bad thing.
If the Saudis don't follow Trump's lead going forward however, we'll know letting them off the hook was a mistake.
Boy, I’ll bet it hurt to write that...
Kashoggi did NOT even have a US GREEN CARD..!
They lied about that, as they did the notion he was ON THE WaPo STAFF..!
So he scribbled something that Amazon published:
SO WHAT..? BOO HOO:
Not a peep out of Da Gummint when Katie Steinle was killed on a San Fran pier, nary a murmur when our 4 guys got waxed in Benghazi.
They only reason for MSM interest in Kashoggi is cuz MBS is buds with the Prez, nothing more.
I wonder when Turkey is going to stop killing their own people, they have been doing it for 100 years. I wonder when Iran is going to stop killing American soldiers?
Hi Metmom. I don’t think the authors of this piece work for the NYTimes...which makes this story all the more interesting.
Your assertions are totally incorrect.
Iran is the one who supports and funds Muslim terrorism. Tha Saudis are our allies against Iran.
Naturally they gave equal time to the snarks, like the reprehensible Iran-supporting, Jew-hating Samantha Power. Slimes gets it wrong even when they get it right, which is seldom. Thanks RoosterRedux.
Doesn't fit the narrative that the invasion is imaginary. Move along.
The guy running the show now, Mohammed Bin Salman, was 16 years old on 9/11 and is trying to rein in Wahhabism while reforming other rigid, religiously-mandated rules that has left Saudi Arabia mired in the dark ages. He is not our enemy. With President Trump's support, MBS will bring Saudi Arabia into the modern civilized world and I don't care one whit if he murdered a meddlesome, terrorist-supporting, Muslim Brotherhood Islamist journalist.
D***ed right, in addition, the DNC is our number one enemy, followed by Putin and his Buttboys (some overlap between the first two), a bunch of NGO-funding billionaires (some overlap with number one, and maybe number two), THEN Iran and the countries it occupies in person or by proxy (Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, parts of Afghanistan, Gaza, the Sinai, various parts of Africa) and has under its influence (various parts of Latin America) -- and Iran is going to move up as the billionaires, uh, die off.
Wow that must have been hard for the Slimes to print.
then watch the splody heads
San Bernardino attack no deal.
Boston Marathon attack no big deal.
The death of four Americans at the US Consulate no bog deal.
Heck the left understood the attacks of 9/11.
But the death of Khashoggi, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood id the biggest event since Pearl Harbor to the left.
Only snowflakes like the journies at the NYT would describe Trump as “crude”...the rest of us see a brave, no-nonsense, leader who is putting America back on the right track.
Of course, that’s the “beef” of the democrats...he’s blocking and exposing their crimes and misbehavior and they are in absolute panic mode.
He keeps them so busy jumping from subject, to subject, they can’t get their head screwed on straight.
True, he is not “gentile”, but we don’t need don’t need “gentile” in this attempted take over of America by socialist and communist terror forces.
We need zero-tolerance and Trump is trying to provide that very theme...and the “participation trophy” crowd are frozen with fear that their little apple cart is being overturned.
