How Mitt Romney could take down Trump: Become the Republican Ralph Nader
The Boston Globe ^ | November 15, 2018 | Nestor Ramos

Posted on 11/19/2018 9:43:28 PM PST by Trump20162020

No, even though the votes from last week aren’t even all counted yet, it is, of course, time to move on to the next election. And while the discussion so far has focused on which Democrats are running and who among them is best positioned to defeat President Trump, I’ve got the perfect candidate to dethrone the Donald.

It’s Mitt Romney.

Or maybe Jeff Flake. Ben Sasse? Sure, whatever. Any of them will do.

Because I’m not suggesting that any of these vocal Trump critics from within the president’s own party — including Massachusetts’ re-gift to Utah — run as a Democrat. I don’t even want them to take on the president in a primary. We already saw how that ends.

Instead, I’m asking only that one of these allegedly responsible Republicans — each of whom has unleashed hell upon Trump in the form of a sternly worded speech/tweet/press release/raised eyebrow — run as a third-party candidate. It’s time for one of these supposed independent thinkers who just can’t abide Trump’s dangerous rhetoric to put their considerable monies where their mouths are.

Romney has referred to the president a “con man” and a “fraud.” Flake, an outgoing senator from Arizona, has decried “the coarseness of our leadership.” And Sasse, a Republican senator from Nebraska, has said he thinks about leaving the party every day because of Trump.

That all sounds great, guys, truly. But if you want to earn brownie points for standing up to Trump, you’re going to have to do more than talk and tweet about it.

You’re going to have to Nader the guy.

Usually when things don’t make sense, we just don’t see all of what is going on.

But at other times, it really does not make any sense at all.

More likely a dream of Mitt’s yes-men who control him 99% of the time.

The Boston Globe’s, Trump-hating, token Mexican worried about the future of the Republican party. FU Nestor.

OBL’s Strong Horse Theory is kicking in.

People in the GOP are figuring out who the Strong Horse is, and it’s Trump. Most are naturally going to gravitate towards supporting him despite their misgivings.

That is why we are seeing a whole new Lindsay Graham and more cooperative Mitch McConnell than I ever could have dreamed of.

The strong horse is not going to be Herman Munster who sat by and let the Democrats paint him as a dog-abusing polygamist who sends jobs to India and goes around giving people cancer.

Mitt RINO isn’t taking down anybody.

***************

Mitt will be the new McFlake in the senate. However, no conservative will ever vote for him in any national run.

I think a lot of Republicans would rather see Mitt come to harm than run against Trump. I don’t wish the guy harm, but if he runs against Trump, he wishes the rest of us harm.

Absurd. Romney didn’t just slither into a Senate seat cause he’s planning a turd party run for President, he’s the new McCain, full stop.

Sasse will probably retire and slither back to academia where he belongs.

Flake will talk about running in order to sell books but won’t really do it.

The one to watch for a POTUS run is Kasich.

https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3707294/posts

He’s delusional enough to think he can win though so he may try a primary bid first. But it would fail early leaving enough time for a turd party try.

Mitt RINO isn’t taking down anybody”

With all due respect you may be missing the point. The author doesn’t beleive Mitt wins but a 3rd party run could very well bleed off enought votes to hand the election to the rats.

If either of those three unseats Trump and becomes the candidate ...

They won't get the Republican nomination.

The question is whether somebody like that will run as a third-party candidate and take enough votes from Trump to throw the election to a Democrat.

Somebody will mount a third-party effort against Trump, but Sasse and Romney may still want careers as Republicans in the Senate, which would mean not antagonizing the party base.

Flake probably ought to have just given up on politics by now.

No joke. He’s smart about who he hires to run things for him, that’s all. Do you really think the billionaire blue-bloods in Mass. let him run anything? Mitt was a figurehead, there’s a couple dozen extremely rich families in Mass., they’re the ones that really run things. Mitt’s only purpose in life was to stand in front of a podium, give speeches, and sign the right paperwork.

I’m fairly sure there have been a few cases where Green Party votes were greater than the margin the Pub candidate won by. Maybe someone here can confirm...
