It could happen in a matter of months, says Martin Mlynczak of NASAs Langley Research Center. ________________
The sun is entering one of the deepest Solar Minima of the Space Age, wrote Dr Tony Phillips just six weeks ago, on 27 Sep 2018.
Sunspots have been absent for most of 2018 and Earths upper atmosphere is responding, says Phillips, editor of spaceweather.com.
Data from NASAs TIMED satellite show that the thermosphere (the uppermost layer of air around our planet) is cooling and shrinking, literally decreasing the radius of the atmosphere.
To help track the latest developments, Martin Mlynczak of NASAs Langley Research Center and his colleagues recently introduced the Thermosphere Climate Index.
The Thermosphere Climate Index (TCI) tells how much heat nitric oxide (NO) molecules are dumping into space. During Solar Maximum, TCI is high (meaning Hot); during Solar Minimum, it is low (meaning Cold).
Right now, it is very low indeed 10 times smaller than we see during more active phases of the solar cycle, says Mlynczak

Record cold in a matter of months
If current trends continue, it could soon set a Space Age record for cold, says Mlynczak. Were not there quite yet, but it could happen in a matter of months.

You know what frosts me about those liberals and media clowns?
They’re all such Global Cooling Science deniers!
This they do already
A new agency called the Solar Control Advisory Board.
I’ve been worried about this from the first time I saw such a chart... which, I think was about 40-50 years ago. A blink on a geologic scale. But, even as a teenager, I was able to quickly understand that: We’re NOT in control of our climate, and.... eventually, it’s going to get ICY again.
A new agency called the Solar Control Advisory Mob.............SCAM...............
When there are few sunspots, the Sun emits less energy.
Regardless, the leftist establishment will pay no attention to this, and say that global warming is causing the snowstorms and blizzards.
In the 1960s it was global cooling the coming ice age
And while we go back and forth on the short term trends, This clearly shows the decline of solar absorption over the last 8,000 years.
This cooling didn’t just start yesterday... It started 8k ago and we are just now starting to feel this change. In the bigger timeline there is a slight delay of several thousand years.
So your gut instincts were right on track. Like you say, even this 8k is just a blink on the geologic scale and timeline.
Prayers for all living things in high latitudes—Alaska, Canada,Siberia etc, Iceland, Greenland, et al. Hope the humans can get prepared. Long-term challenges will test human adaptability. Some animal species lacking the body mass to endure will die off, migrate southward, or be decimated. I lived in Alaska for a cumulative total of 45 years. Experienced 65 below zero F. Predators lose their fear of humans and seek food in populated areas. Commonplace temps for locations around the Arctic Circle. Gonna be some scary times...
Denver had a 14-degree F overnight temp in October. Killed every leaf that was still green. I brought all my houseplants in when the overnight lows were still in the 40s. Current morning temp in the shade: 29.
All things old are new again................
Record cold in Minneapolis the past week. Feels more like late December.

Lot of ice in that river.
That is a really cool site. Hams are screwed for skip during solar minimums.
Graphic not quite to scale. (evil grin)
I bet these guys are right about colder climate coming due lack of sunspots. They work at NASA...call this the Trump effect. With a President Hillary they would not have spoken up. It could kill their careers.
