The headline should have been: Security Guard Apprehends Shooter and Saves Lives. Instead, its another case of the police shooting and killing an innocent black man.
Eyewitnesses say that at Mannys Blue Room Bar in Robbins, [Cook County, Chicago] Ill., security told a group of intoxicated men they had to leave. One of the men returned armed, at which point shots were exchanged between them and armed security guards.
One of the guards, Jemel Roberson, 26, managed to restrain one of the gunmen.
From WGN9:
He had somebody on the ground with his knee in back with his gun in his back like, dont move, witness Adam Harris said.
Two police officers arrived, and upon seeing the scene, one of them immediately shot Roberson before taking the time to better assess the situation.
Everybody was screaming out, he was a security guard, and they basically saw a black man with a gun and killed him, Harris said to WGN. He was just doing his joband had managed to do so without using fatal force, as the four people wounded had only nonfatal injuries.

It didnt happen in Chicago.
Fake news just like the alleged heroic security guard
If he were white it would be the focus of this article.
You’ve never lived in Chicago. Cook County IS Chicago. 100% Outfit run. That includes the inner, Ring Counties. Will, DuPage, Lake. The Ring counties used to be Republicanish, but the infection has spread.
“Fake news just like the alleged heroic security guard”
And you know this how?
Cop is guilty of murder. Identify and know your target, cop did not properly assess the threat. Not an accident, is incompetence.
it doesn’t matter that the guy was black....it matters that he is dead......
The story seems accurate, as it matches what other news sources are reporting.
He was only 26 years old, doing a good deed as a security guard. What a shame.
I’ll believe it when they show me a video with clearly audible sound.
Two things immediately jump out at me...
The guard had no concealed carry license, so he had to know he would be at risk of arrest once the cops arrived.
Why would he stay out there in plain sight holding a gun that might send him to prison?
Second, according to the witnesses, the cops fired multiple shots at the guard while he was sitting or kneeling on the man on the ground, a man the cops apparently thought might be an innocent victim.
It seems very odd that the cops would instantly open fire into what, at first glance, they thought was a hostage situation.
As an exChicagoan I get tired of FR’s poping off about areas they know nothing about. This stupid assessment comes from someone who lives in Washington State

Robbins happens to be a smaller south suburb 90% black. Cops that responded came from nearby Midlothian which also has a black majority population and a integrated force.

Only the Police should have guns!
L8r
Would have been in the headline.
Still Whitey's fault though./sarc
Why is it hard to believe. In Cleveland they drove up and opened fire on a kid in a park.
That doesn't seem odd to me at all. I think the consensus here agrees with me.
I would agree, but there are lessons for all who carry to be had from this, to state nothing of those who manage the security industry.
This was an avoidable tragedy on multiple fronts.
Why would he stay out there in plain sight holding a gun that might send him to prison?
Because he was doing his job as a security guard, saving lives, holding a man who had entered the bar with a gun and threatened to shoot people. What a moron, right?
LOL!
I put you three guys on my “Root Ping List” so I can send you their updates on the vote recount in Atlanta, and in Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
Feel free to post your contrary source.
Unless Cook County has a Conservative crime blogger, the police video and audio, the CSI work, and the sworn depositions and testimony won't be publicly available until the Wrongful Death lawsuit begins.
Then, there is always the possibility that the County will settle before trial, for political or financial reasons, and any exculpatory evidence will be suppressed for decades.
