Fats Waller is one of my favorites of that era.

Every time I post at the Canteen, I look for Ms. B. When I don't see her, the Canteen seems incomplete. When I see her, my FReeper life is fulfilled.
Great tune from the distant past! Hard to believe it's been 50 years.

Fats and Satchmo were unique.

I’d never heard of Giovanni Bottesini, or of his “Grand Duo for Bass, Violin and Piano.”

One of the greatest songs ever written and recorded (backed by the Wrecking Crew). I remember clearly the first time I heard it on a snowy Saturday afternoon in December 1965 in New Jersey. Absolute perfection in D minor.

Piano roles were considered accompaniment, so it’s technically a grand duo.

Interesting side note. Cass’ voice was so powerful and Michelle’s voice so weak that Cass had to hold back to make sure that Michelle was heard. The genius behind the production was Lou Adler.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
HARRY WARREN
HARD TO GET: YOU MUST HAVE BEEN A BEAUTIFUL BABY
Its time for one of the immortals. This is Bing at the peak of his form with a song that made it all the way to the top of the Hit Parade. Those are Johnny Mercers lyrics.
Bing Crosby: You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby
