Matthew G. Whitaker, President Trumps pick to temporarily helm the Justice Department, provides Trump with the leader he has long sought at the law enforcement agency: a political loyalist critical of the special counsel probe.
Before Whitaker joined the Trump administration as a political appointee, the Republican lawyer and legal commentator complained that special counsel Robert S. Mueller IIIs investigation of Russian interference in the election and of the Trump campaign was dangerously close to overreaching. He suggested ways it could be stopped or curtailed and urged his followers on Twitter to read a story that dubbed the investigators Muellers lynch mob.
Now at least on an interim basis Whitaker will assume authority over that investigation, an arrangement that has triggered calls by Democrats for him to recuse himself.
In a statement Wednesday, Whitaker said he was committed to leading a fair Department with the highest ethical standards, that upholds the rule of law, and seeks justice for all Americans.
Before joining the Justice Department in 2017 as Sessionss chief of staff, Whitaker served as U.S. attorney in Iowa, made an unsuccessful U.S. Senate bid and ran a conservative watchdog group. For a time, he served on the advisory board of an invention-promotion company that was shut down earlier this year amid a Federal Trade Commission investigation, records show.
Fellow conservatives cast Whitakers political background as an asset. Theres so many things that fall within the Justice Departments responsibility that lie at the intersection of law and politics that you really need to be knowledgeable and able to see the issue in both political and legal terms, said former deputy attorney general George J. Terwilliger III.

Yea, I was reading Whitaker still has to go through a process....but I’m not sure if for a transitional position until another is officially appointed.
Janet Reno was the Clintons lap dog. Didnt hear the Left complaining.
The pack journalism is despicable and cowardly.
They are Pravda.
This commie rant is weird.
Hey WAPO, you lost.
The DOJ is the political nerve center of Fed.gov. Every President has a loyalist in the job to protect their flanks and carry out political operations. JFK had his own brother (Joe Sr. insisted). Reagan had his old friend Meese. Clinton had Reno and of course, Obama had fellow travelers (he made sure they were black, too) who made the DOJ Obama's political operations center for CAIR, for #BLM movement, for Ferguson and for every political scheme he had
Trump was not allowed to have a loyalist. That's why Sessions was forced on him.
Whitaker should be making sure that dossiers on Antifa members are started and filed. The FBI needs to find out who is paying them.

And Obama didn’t have a couple toe-sucking loyalists?
If true, it is way past time. I find myself wondering what the truth is about Jeff Sessions. My first question would be, “Is he well?” My second question would be, “Is he loyal to the Deep State?” My third question would be, “What does the opposition have on him which could be used as blackmail?” These are just thoughts, not facts. I remember the prickly sensation that ran all over my body as the alarm rose in me that day when he accused himself from the Russian investigation soon after he was appointed DOJ. I felt very alarmed and wondered why he had been appointed. Did President Trump know he was going to do that? In retrospect, that whole Russian investigation feels like the Christine Blasy Ford charge against Judge Kavanaugh. I wonder whether some of the same people are involved in both.
Gee, Eric the Red Holder was no Obama loyalist was he. /sarc
Only thing I need to hear to make my day, week, month, is for Grassley to refer the remaining “accusers” for criminal referrals to the DOJ. And yes, that includes BJ Ford, now that the midterms are over.
I’m going to enjoy the shit show that results when all of Kavenaugh’s so called “accusers” are under criminal referral to the DOJ.
Over to Nadler, you fat ass lying piece of crap.
Go ahead, make our day, sparky.
“Trump has a loyalist “
What the hell did they call Holder? The Rats always appoint people who would take a bullet for them and no problem with that of course.
Loyalist were those in Massachuttes that did not favor the revolution against the crown.
The state is now overwhelmingy full of them that owe their loyalty to the liberal UK
The good guys migrated west. The loyalists stayed
Any questions?
Grassroots activists around the country are gathering for rapid-response protests! *
Thanks for posting this.
This is proof that Sessions has been a hand puppet of the Deep State thugs and fooled a lot of us, including President Trump at first.
A real AG will destroy Mueller and his little thugs, and the Deep Staters know that.
So, now they are “protesting” that President Trump fired their fox, Sessions, in their chicken coop, the DOJ/FBI!
” From the protest website - Be peaceful Dress as professionally as is possible Bring the Stars & Stripes, patriotic symbols Bring snacks and water if you can Bring as many people as possible with you Limit possible interaction with the media to the core message: Whitaker must recuse himself from the Mueller investigation immediately and relinquish the oversight to Rosenstein Copy this message and spread it on social media like wildfire Keep the messaging and signs on topic and focused: Whitaker must recuse Protect Mueller.”
