A host of prominent celebrities waded into the midterm elections over the past few months to lend their endorsements mostly to far-left Democratic candidates.
However, most of these celebrity-endorsed candidates lost their midterm election races. Here are the results of some of the most high-profile endorsements.
Taylor Swift
In perhaps one of the most noticed celebrity endorsements of the midterms, Taylor Swift broke her long political silence to endorse former Tennesse Gov. Phil Bredesen over GOP Rep. Marsha Blackburn in Tennessee’s Senate race.
“As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post. “I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives.”
Blackburn trounced Bredesen for the Senate seat Tuesday night.
Swift did get half her wish, however, with Rep. Jim Cooper easily winning his 9th term in the U.S. House of Representatives, but the Nashville Democrat was already expected to win in the heavily Democratic 5th District of Tennessee prior to the pop star’s endorsement.
Rihanna
R&B icon Rihanna threw her support behind far-left Florida Governor candidate Andrew Gillum in a Twitter and Instagram post.
“FLORIDA: You have the opportunity to make history this election,” she wrote.
Gillum conceded to GOP Rep. Ron DeSantis Tuesday evening after a very close race.
DJ Khaled & P. Diddy
Sean “Diddy” Combs and DJ Khaled performed at a rally concert for Gillum at Florida A&M University the night before the election.
Dave Chappelle
Actor and comedian Dave Chappelle campaigned for Maryland gubernatorial candidate Ben Jealous, even going door to door for him. Jealous was proposing a leftist agenda in Maryland including tuition-free college and Medicare for all.
Popular incumbent GOP Governor Larry Hogan easily won re-election in the deep blue state despite Chappelle’s efforts.
Oprah
Oprah Winfrey went to Georgia to campaign on behalf of Democrat Stacey Abrams for governor. Her visit prompted Vice President Mike Pence to joke that, “this ain’t Hollywood - this is Georgia,” at a rally where he campaigned on behalf of her GOP opponent Brian Kemp.
So far, Abrams is refusing to concede the race despite Kemp’s lead and is hoping for a runoff.
“Kemp was just over 15,000 votes above the threshold to avoid a runoff,” Lauren Groh-Wargo, Abrams’s campaign manager, told The Washington Post. She estimates, “there are at least that many outstanding mail-in ballots that have yet to be counted in Democratic-leaning counties.”
Willie Nelson
Famed country singer Willie Nelson headlined a campaign event for Beto O’Rourke in September and even joined with him in a rendition of “On the Road Again.”
O’Rourke lost to incumbent GOP Sen. Ted Cruz Tuesday. Cruz got 50.9 percent of the vote compared to O’Rourke’s 48.3 percent.
Eva Longoria
Actress Eva Longoria endorsed O'Rourke on Twitter in both English and Spanish.
“Beto believes in us and supports us,” she wrote. “He supports healthcare for all and he’s going to fight for our kids futures and invest in our public school system so that every kid has a chance to succeed.”
Queen Bey
Beyonce caught Betomania late in the game Tuesday and posted some Instagram pictures of herself in a Beto O’Rourke hat in support of the Democrat running against Cruz.
LeBron James
Los Angeles Laker Lebron James wore an O'Rourke hat before a game against the Spurs in San Antonio. He has also praised Beto on social media.
Beto Lost the Senate Race? He Should Run for President!
Celebrities are so enamored by O'Rourke that many who endorsed him are now calling for him to run for president in 2020 despite his loss.
Beto lost? That’s ok. Now he can run for President.— Alyssa Milano (@Alyssa_Milano) November 7, 2018
Beto 2020. Let’s do this.— olivia wilde (@oliviawilde) November 7, 2018
Beto/Gillum 2020.— Busy Philipps (@BusyPhilipps) November 7, 2018
Blond women really do tend to be dingbats, it seems.
Celebrities didn’t lose big, they lost bigly to quote our President....
As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office....
Why? Why does the sex matter?
And now that she’s shown her self to be a POS liberal, lots of conservative moms can stop letting their kids buy her JUST GODAWFUL music.
And any older fans of hers can tell her
“we are never ever getting back together”
I heard my niece playing that song and tried to find rope to hang myself bu the song ended before I could, thank goodness
When a teenage Taylor Swift first began getting publicity in country music, it was stated she and her family moved to Nashville from Pennsylvania, her home state where she was raised.
Everyone 0bama endorsed also lost!
Silver Lining! MAGA! :)
Dumbest move ever. Taylor Swift threw away every single bit of her star quality just to be another celebrity.
Did that fat sow in Georgia concede or are they still ginning up “missing” ballots?
Busy Phillips (is this a real person) is obviously a racist. The dream ticket would be Gillum/ORourke
John Legend, “Jesus Christ Superstar” himself campaigned for Theresa Gasper against Mike Turner in the OH-10. Lost 56 - 41 (I+)
LOL
The self importance in Hollywood is getting tiresome.
If you need a bimbo celebrity to define your rights for you.... you ALREADY lost them
When Democratic celebrities endorse candidates, they insult the intelligence of prospective voters.
Who but a brainless fool would vote for a candidate because a brainless celebrity like Taylor Swift told them to do so?
In the meantime, intelligent voters, that is, Republicans, are put off by such foolishness, become energized to go to the polls to vote Republican, and voila, the Republican candidate wins.
Aunt Jemima said not now, not tomorrow, not at any time wil she concede the election. Her save Georgia team will find enough votes to make her the next guvnuh of Jawja.
Abrams’ campaign manager, Lauren Groh-Wargo, said to Politico, “By running a large scale GOTV operation, securing a robust legal team and making historic investments in voter protection to ensure every eligible voter can cast a ballot, our campaign is preparing for every scenario on election night and ready to fight for every vote.”
If only Taylor Swift had posed naked then her candidate would have won :)
are they still ginning up missing ballots?
**********
Yes. Yes; they are.
Why would I see Beto O’Rourke signs in FL?
Could it be mental illness?
5.56mm
Screw them.
You mean the one that Oprah endorsed? No she hasn’t
