Republican Staten Island Rep. Dan Dovonan was defeated by an Afghan war vet in a major House upset Tuesday night, losing his bid for a second full term in a seat he was favored to win for months. The upset came at the hands of Democrat Max Rose, who combined a massive fundraising haul with an energetic persona to dispatch the longtime politician. Donovan quickly conceded at his election night party.

Ping.
GOP lost the seat in 2008, they got it back in 2010. Should be another one-time fluke against a weak/damaged incumbent.
It looks like control of the house is going to the communists. Damn! They gained 14 and they need 23 and now the results are going to come in from west coast, Mexifornia, Leftington,
Any D seats flip to us so far?

.
PA 14.But I don’t count that.
The GOP had a chance to flip two seats in Minnesota and one in Nevada.
Anyone know the status of those two seats?
Err, THREE seats.
Did Spanberger end up taking down Brat?
We got a part of Brooklyn thrown in with us too.
It’s changing FAST and it’s Russian and Albanian and they vote D.
I underestimated how many of them there are.
They are infesting staten island now too
I really hate that guy.

Democrats will win the NY State Senate and have a trifecta in NYS Government. Long time Brooklyn state Senator Marty Golden (R) has lost.
I thought the Dems were broke.
I live in Maine’s Second Congressional district, where Bruce Poliquin, the incumbent Republican, is struggling to keep his seat against state representative Jared Golden, a liberal former Marine.
The TV and radio ads were relentless, with the dems laying in to, and lying about, the Republican’s position on healthcare, pre-existing conditions, donations from insurance companies, etc.
I have public television muted and from time to time look at the screen. The dem was ahead by four points, now they are tied at 46% each with half of the precincts still to be tallied.
I think northern and western Maine will save this seat for the GOP.
PBS had Spanberger at 50% and Brat at 49%. I don’t know if the race has been called.
PBS has reported that Brat has lost. Damn.
Afghan war vet? There were a few Dem candidates who I suggested might be possible flips to the GOP. If the margin is only a couple of seats this might be one that they should try to get to cross over - especially since he unseated a GOP incumbent, the district might acquiesce in the end. Not easy for a party to flip a sitting member of a party but if it is close they should try.
Now I’m curious what the laws might be in this regard. You can’t buy votes in Congress (at least not directly, only by the corruption allowed inside the system eg committee assignments and party campaign support) - but can you buy party registration?
