A former senior Alaska Airlines pilot who was fired earlier this year after a female co-pilot sued the airline, alleging that the captain drugged and raped her during a June 2017 work trip, has filed a lawsuit of his own against his accuser and the carrier. The aviator, who flew for Alaska for 22 years, claims he was wrongly terminated amid false #MeToo claims in a negligent, flawed investigation.
Paul Engelien filed the lawsuit against former First Officer Betty Pina after the 40-year-old woman claimed the captain, 51, drugged and raped her during a layover on a work trip to Minnesota in June 2017, the Seattle Times reported on Nov. 2.

“drugged and raped her...”
Drugged with what? How? If she remembers then she wasn’t incapacitated. Was it good for her? What’s the evidence? He said/she said doesn’t work.
Bkmk
I'll bet that the airline's Chief Legal Officer and the Director of Public Relations advised that he be fired. As a purely business decision it might have been the right thing to do.
Even if,by chance, this pilot is innocent here I suspect he'll find it almost impossible to prevail here.Of course if he *is* guilty he doesn't *deserve* to prevail.
Seems unlikely he’d do this if there was a strong case against him.
“least *some* women “
Most claims I have ever heard were false. *most*, not *some*, *most*.
The “victim” called Ball Zee Ford for advice
If the guy is innocent I hope the airline has to pay dearly for firing him this is b******* and it’s got to stop
Good point one can’t rape the willing but saying it was is a good way to advance in the company been used many times.
I’m pretty sure drugging and raping someone is a crime, even in Minnesota. Did she go to the police? Were charges ever filed?
I have some workplace experience connected to this general subject.I worked for a long time in a big city ER.Along with the heart attacks, strokes, car accidents and gunshot wounds we saw we also saw a fair number of women who stated that they had been raped. Our ER had a team of specially trained nurses and physicians (mainly gynecologists) who were assigned to evaluate and treat them.Their goals were to treat any physical, and psychological, injuries they might have sustained *and* to collect evidence (swabs, photos, etc, etc) that could be used by a prosecutor in court.
Long story short...most of the times that the nurse assigned to the patient did an initial exam/interview they'd come out and talk to their fellow nurses about what they found. In most cases I heard them say things like "this poor woman, she's the real deal" (not an exact quote,of course) but sometimes I heard them express doubts as to the truthfulness of the woman's claim.
Just sayin'...
Note that she played this same game earlier at another airline.
My bet is that she is a poor pilot and he gave her or she thought he would give her a bad job review.
If I was ever involved in any kind of criminal,or civil, matter and I knew I was guilty my basic attitude would be to just lie down and take it.That attitude stems mainly from the fact that I'm a terrible liar (meaning unconvincing) and I'm a terrible actor.OTOH,if I knew I was innocent I'd fight like hell...with the knowledge in mind that I'm quite articulate *and* convincing when I'm telling the truth.
The fact that he's doing this could well indicate that he is,in fact, innocent.
That is well within the realm of possibility. With Judge Kavanaugh, for example...what I saw and heard,as well as what I *didn't* see or hear, led me to strongly suspect that the accusations were unfounded. However,I cannot be 100% certain that they were.In cases like this it's true that 99% of the time the only people who know what did,or did not, happen are the accuser and the accused.
Well, when they go to the ER- they very likely have a real case (most, not all of course- there are some real nuts who think they could fool experts and make the claim they were raped when they weren’t)-
Did this woman who claimed she was raped go to the ER? Almost all women who intend to make the charge of rape would go to the ER to gather medical proof that they had been raped (but even at that, a woman could be devious enough to have sex with her boyfriend , or spouse, (without them leaving their DNA), and make the claim another man ‘raped her’, and of course there would be evidence such as bruising, or rawness or whether, don’t wanna get too graphic-)
Not all women will go to ER though- and we shopuldn’t just automatically dismiss them because they didn’t, but again, most women, wanting to make the claim of abuse, would, and those that don’t didn’t help their case any by not going- and they should face up to the fact that because they didn’t, they don’t stand much of a chance of proving their case- It’s just a fact that without corroborating evidence, the case is muchly weakened for them and they should seriously consider whether it would be worth it to pursue the case with the chance that noone will believe them, and worse, think they are simply out to hurt someone and profit financially- They may very well have a legit case, but again, it will be nearly impossible to prove- and that’s just a fact-

There was a body language expert that analyzed her reactions to questions to her during her testimony, and oh my word, it was pretty obvious she was lying. The expert looked at both what she did, and what she failed to do in regards to her actions- I was pretty convinced she was lying before viewing the video, because, like you, I just sensed something was off with her reactions and comments, but after seeing the video- it became clear my hunches were right- It was kind of stunning really, having it explained and thinking, ‘wow’ I knew something was off, I just didn’t know exactly what, now i do’
Officials at Alaska believed that the pair may have violated the airlines ten-hour alcohol rule during layover, which prohibits pilots from consuming alcohol within ten hours of duty.
Pinas false claims defamed Engelien, invaded his privacy, decimated his life and career, and caused him severe distress, Engelien’s lawsuit states, arguing that Alaskas human resources advisor lead a negligent, flawed and pretextual [internal] investigation regarding the claims.
The lawsuit also states that Pina was previously involved in a similar incident during her time working for Alaska in May 2017, during which she reportedly drank too much, blacked out, then later blamed others, the Times reports.
According to Pinas LinkedIn profile, she now flies for a Hawaii-based carrier.
A small twist on the Fox headline is that Copilot Pina was trying to get out of her own failed alcohol test and blamed it on the senior pilot.
I think that he may have the basis for a lawsuit.
Notice how the pilots union has remained very silent on this case.
Alaska Airlines is known for its ability to make cost benefit analysis.
For example, how many dollars per plane can you save if you don’t waste the time and supplies to properly lubricate a jackscrew? After all, what can go wrong if you can figure out how to do a 4 hour job in just an hour.
