More than 1,600 scientists signed a letter denouncing President Trump administrations plan to narrow the definition of gender to be strictly biological, according to Buzzfeed.
The letter was written in response to a memo reportedly drafted by the Department of Health and Human Services, according to the New York Times.
The memo states that any disputes about a persons sex would be clarified using genetic testing, which scientists who signed the letter called unscientific and unethical.
This proposal is fundamentally inconsistent not only with science, but also with ethical practices, human rights, and basic dignity, the scientists wrote.
Among the signatories are eight Nobel laureates.
The letter emphasizes that both biological sex and gender are on a spectrum and are not clear cut.
Our best available evidence shows that affirmation of gender identity is paramount to the survival, health, and livelihood of transgender and intersex people, the letter states.
More than 50 companies signed onto a statement released Wednesday supporting transgender equality.
These people are supposed to pass as scientists nowadays??
Look the weather crap took a dump and well you know, everyones gotta eat... ..
I had not heard that. What species of jellyfish would that be? I have read that some species of jellyfish are essentially hermaphodistic, that is, each individual has both sperm and egg producing organs. Also that the common “sea nettle” jellyfish of the Chesapeake Bay goes through two reproduction processes, the first (sexual process) producing a plant-like growth, and the second, an asexual process of the plant splitting off the free swimming medusa forms.
Which is all very interesting, but how is it relevant? Human beings are not jellyfish.
In an academic environment, where your position and livelihood depends on not violating political correctness, it’s not surprising that they found that many people who would consent to sign.
Consider the consequences of being asked, and refusing...
It’s called (or should be) The She=He=It movement
So mostly what Jerry Pournelle called the Voodoo Sciences. Predictable.

Science.
Did Tom Cruise and John Travolta sign this?
I take it all of these “scientists” are either political or social “scientists”.
scientists of Cannabis
...psychologists and the like are not scientists...
I beg to differ. I earned a degree in psychology and attended a year of Grad School in Social Psychology 50 years ago. In those days, one of the most carefully discussed topics in the field was what is it that we can SCIENTIFICALLY study as psychology? These individuals would have failed that part of the course.
We made a real effort in those days to make the study of behavior (the scientific definition of psychology) as rigorous and fact oriented as physics. I consider myself a scientist; I cant see how the psychologists in this group even got into Graduate School.”
Yes, social scientists tried mightily to apply scientific methods, but the data and variables on which they tried to apply the methods of hard science simply cannot be controlled in the way hard science data can. After taking many courses with professors who kept protesting too much how rigorously scientific and statistical they were being and teaching us to be, when it became clearer and clearer that for the subjects we were studying there are always too many other variables in play, variables they could never be separated out.
I realized that these fields, while interesting, were being misrepresented. They would have been better to just say they were observing behaviors of individuals and groups and providing some insights and tentative generations. These 1,600 are acting out of personal bias, not science.
Typo in my post above. The word at the end of the second to last sentence should have read “generalizations.”

Well, thats 1,600 ass hats 🎩 that I wouldnt trust to tell me what color the sky is.
Any science that takes any data directly from or about people is or will be politicized.
Science has become a joke.
...
Science in the corrupt media and politics is a joke. Real science doesn’t get that much coverage.
For humans, there are two genders. Anything else is an illness or abnormality. It’s not a spectrum.
Pure Bs, The gay thing is an abomination to God, all have sinned, but it is time for all to repent and seek the living way of Christ.. Science knows nothing, Man knows nothing, seek God..
I remember a scientist who was very good at electronics who thought he was an expert on biochemistry and insisted Vitamin C could cure cancer...
MSNPC is one of the best ones I have seen.
The opinions of scientists is not science.
You know what they say about opinions. Everybody has one.
I got a degree in Psych because that was the only Major I could get in what was left after I met Pre Med requirements. It was a 30 hour Major. That said, it included 4 semesters of Stats and a Senior Honors Thesis on Experimental design with Calculus. It was once a rigorous field of study. Some of my professors were grad students of the names in the textbooks. George Gamov actually did perception work with rattlesnakes, if you can believe it.
