Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) announced on Tuesday that he plans to introduce legislation ending birthright citizenship for children born to illegal immigrants on American soil, citing it as a magnet for illegal immigration.
President Donald J. Trump announced on Tuesday that he plans to draft an executive order to end birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants born in America.
Trump told Axios Jonathan Swan: But now theyre saying I can do it with just an executive order. Now, how ridiculouswe are the only country in the world where a person comes in, has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States for 85 years with all of those benefits? Its ridiculous. Its ridiculousand it has to end.
Sen. Graham cheered Trumps move against birthright citizenship, citing it as a significant magnet for illegal immigration.
Finally, a president willing to take on this absurd policy of birthright citizenship, Graham said in a statement. Ive always supported comprehensive immigration reform and at the same time the elimination of birthright citizenship.
Graham continued explaining that birthright citizenship is a foreign concept in most modern countries.
The South Carolina Republican said, The United States is one of two developed countries in the world who grant citizenship based on location of birth. This policy is a magnet for illegal immigration, out of the mainstream of the developed world, and needs to come to an end.
Eliminating birthright citizenship would prevent children born of illegal aliens would not receive citizenship status and would likely deter the practice of foreigners having anchor babies where immigrants plan to give birth to children on American soil to obtain citizenship for their children.

Don’t, he is still for amnesty.
Graham has his finger in the wind and it’s blowing Trump. Or another way, Trump casts a big shadow and Graham is getting comfortable in the MAGA shade.
He is a fickle politician that wants to keep his job.
How does this Bill hold up vs. The Fourteenth Amendment?
Heuvos Grande!
I don’t recall so completely and quickly forgetting about a politician I once liked after they died like I did with mccain.
Ronald Reagan will be with me until I die.
Rudy will always have a warm place in my heart, though he is not a conservative.
JM was dead to me long before he died.
Like when Darth Vader tossed whatshisname down.
Although it is good to eliminate the incentive the reality is different. Social Security is a pyramid scheme and the funds will run out in the near future. The young people are the ones that pay for the elderly. Therefore, as the population shrinks the outgoing expenses will be higher than the funds coming in.
There have been over 60 Million abortions in this country and most families are not having the minimum of two children that would be needed to replace the husband and wife. Therefore, the rhetoric sounds good but in reality the tax base is shinking because there are not enough people to support all of the government programs. By the time Social Security runs out of money it will be too late.
THIS!!! Plus his butt buddy McCain is no longer there to hold his hand.
I wonder what McCain had on him that no longer constrains him? Thanks BlackFemaleArmyColonel.
We should call him “Dobby” (this freed elf answers to no master!) :)
I'd hold off on that for a while. Talk is cheap.
McCain died.
The Supreme Court has interpreted the Citizenship Clause multiple times, but never this situation. President Trump's executive order would likely force the issue into the Supreme Court, because there will be Liberal federal judges who will strike it down. This issue could be before the Supreme Court in time for the 2020 campaign.
I will never call him Little Lindsey Loop De Loo. Never again!

LOL couldn’t remember - been too long - thanks
(was just trying to find my old pic of Hillary blasting lightning at Obama - it’s gone, sadly)
Thank you, Senator Graham! You are doing the right thing.
This bill will fail. But it, and Trump’s EO, will move the Overton window on immigration quite a lot.
This will make the left hysterical.
This^^.
While I am encouraged by Lindsey's new found courage, this move is just good politics and pandering to the base prior to the election.
