Retired airline pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who landed the famous "miracle on the Hudson," said Monday that this is not the America I know and love in a message encouraging voter participation ahead of the midterm elections.
Sullenberger wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post that he witnessed the best in people on Jan. 15, 2009, when he led 154 people to safety by making an emergency landing on the Hudson River after a malfunction. ADVERTISEMENT
"To navigate complex challenges, all leaders must take responsibility and have a moral compass grounded in competence, integrity and concern for the greater good," he wrote.
Tragically, people in positions in power today are not projecting their best, Sullenberger wrote.
Many are cowardly, complicit enablers, acting against the interests of the United States, our allies and democracy; encouraging extremists at home and emboldening our adversaries abroad; and threatening the livability of our planet.

Shut up and sing
Shut up and act
And I guess now we can add ...
Shut up and fly
I read his comments, and got the same impression. He said he's been a registered Republican is whole adult life. That doesn't mean he hasn't split a ticket or two along the way, but I don't get where they see this as anti-Trump at all.
"Sullenberger wrote that he has been a registered Republican for the majority of his adult life but has 1always voted as an American.'
That's because they're dumber than a box of rocks.
If he had, his comments never would have been published.
Hey, Sully - stick with what you know ... Crashing airplanes into the Hudson River. Politics is not your expertise. IOW, flyboy - STFU!
Phew....All I can say is....HE GONE!
It was a stupid movie, he crashed his plane into a river. The end.
whose
(first time I've ever taken my red pen to one of your posts)
That’s true.
“Many are cowardly, complicit enablers, acting against the interests of the United States, our allies and democracy; encouraging extremists at home and emboldening our adversaries abroad; and threatening the livability of our planet.
Yea... That’s why we voted Trump into office to stop such terrible people.
For such a long speech suly basically said nothing but platitudes that anyone could ‘color in the lines” of their ideology.
He has a future in politics(but which party is ambiguously unanswered)
The real brilliance of Skully was to decide to land in the Hudson. He had sufficient altitude to make it to Newark but if it had of gone wrong all on the plane and many on the ground could have died. Relative to his landing it was most simple, he had thousands of feet to land on. Get it low and slow and hit the river. His piloting was not of great skill. His decision process of where to put that plane down was most good. He made a wise choice!
Quite honestly, it sounds like he is speaking against leftists. And “Always voting As an American”. Well, that sounds like a nationalist to me.
Man has everything to do with the belief that man SIGNIFICANTLY changes the Earth's climate.
IF you examine the following NOAA graph, you will see that actual temperature measurements show that the 1930's were the warmest temperatures since the late 1800's.
The CORRECTED tempertures (labeled adjusted) show that temperatures have been on a study increase since the 1930's.
That conflict between measured and corrected demands that the reason there is a difference between the blue and red lines be explained!
Although NOAA won't say this, the bases of adjusting tempertures is to make the temperature measurements consistent with CO2 increases, which as every school kid knows causes greenhouse temperture increases.
Yes, some people are stupid enough to believe in the globull warming scam. The temperature increases you hear about on the news are on ADJUSTED TEMPERATURES, NOT ON MEASURED TEMPERATURES!
“and threatening the livability of our planet
he believes in manmade gloBULL warming? poor guy.
As an airline pilot of 31 years, while there are some liberal pilots, my impression is the majority are pretty conservative.
The guy made some good decisions. And that was good.
But America (and in particular, FR) blows these actions into Superheroes who match a distorted version of an American hero.
Then people get all upset when the person doesnt live up to the image in peoples minds.
He is just a guy. He did something amazing. Respect that. His political views dont mean anything to me. He does not deserve extra hero points because of ANYTHING he did outside of his heroic action.
sounded like a Trump dig to me.
“Sounds like he made an endorsement of President Trump.”
Agree.
