Serial Fibber Brian Williams: JFK Served Under General Eisenhower in WWII
Newsbusters ^ | October 15, 2018 | P.J. Gladnick

Serial fibber Brian Williams told yet another whopper on Friday night from his home in MSNBC exile known as The 11th Hour with Brian Williams. So what else is new? What makes his latest historical untruth ironically special is it came as Williams along with historian Michael Beschloss were fact checking President Donald Trump for a supposed error he made during his speech at a rally in Lebanon, Ohio on Friday.

For years following the Civil War, many historians as well as much of the public in general discounted the military abilities of General Ulysses S. Grant by claiming he was able to accomplish his victories primarily due to the overwhelming men and material of the North as well as being willing to expend both in a more than necessary manner on the battlefield. So when Trump mentioned in his speech that Grant is finally being respected as a great general as has happened, this set both Brian Williams and Beschloss off in snark mode.

And JFK should have been put on trial for getting his PT boat ran over by a Jap cruiser! What was he doing, passed out from liquor?

Brian Williams was never going to be kept off the news. Just scold him and suspend him for a while, then when most of the sheeple don’t know or don’t care, slowly reintroduce him to the world of broadcast news, which they’ve been doing ever since they “fired” him.

No Grant was far better commander then Lee.

Lee was prmorted past his competency level. He would of been much better staying as an Army Geeneral and someone like Albert Sidney or Joe Johnson being the over all commander.

Lee never grasped the war was national in scale. He focused on Virginia only and, arguably, cost the South the war by refusing to look at the strategic picture.

In addition, Grant understood the strategic priorities of the North in a way Lee never did for the South. Lee’s biggest failing, like the French in WW1, believed offensive warfare was the key. He never understood that given the South deficits in material and manpower, he need to win by outlasting the north. Fredricksburg, and possible 2nd Manassas were Lee’s only true victory. In the rest of his battler he continually lost a greater portion of his force then the North. The result is all of his victories were Phyrric. They won a short term respite in exchange for irreplaceable casualties.

Does they refer to the PT boats or the destroyers?

"Your father pulled strings and insisted you deserve a medal for turning the engine off on your PT boat and getting run over by a destroyer."

as he was idling when the PT-109

You don't get court-martialed for idling.

One gets court-martialed for turning OFF the engines in combat.

He was referring to the PT boats as the fastest things on the ocean.

BTW, it was a destroyer, not a cruiser. I saw an interview with the Jap captain who rammed PT-109. He said the PT boat did not see them and that he purposely rammed it, not an accident.

Eisenhower retired as a General of the Army after his time as Chief of Staff. He resigned the rank upon his election as President. He asked JFK to have his previous rank restored after he left the White House in January 1961. The law restoring that rank passed Congress in March 1961.

PT-109 was run over by the Fubuki class destroyer Amagiri, not a cruiser.

“I sense that this Question is turning into a Skirmish that may end up in a Full Scale Historically Correct Reenactment.”

Too bad this couldn’t have occurred decades ago. Ted Kennedy could have driven the Jap cruiser.

Lee never grasped the war was national in scale. He focused on Virginia only and, arguably, cost the South the war by refusing to look at the strategic picture.

Lee was only in command of the army of Northern Virginia. He was tasked by the government with defending the capital, so he was tied down to Virginia. Even when he went farther afield, as in Maryland and Pennsylvania, he had to be able to cover Richmond if need be. He always deferred to the wishes of Pres. Davis. Lee thought it was a bad idea to have the capital in Richmond and to tie up resources in its defense; but he followed orders.

Lee did not cost the south the war. If anything he prolonged the war.

Mixing up John Kennedy with his Brother Joe (Who was to be president) An army air corps bomber pilot who was to destroy the Nazi V-3 wonderweapomn (A giant underground cannon that would have obliterated London) The plan was for joe to fly a B-17 over the Channel loaded with explosives, set the controls to fly into the Bunker and parachute to safety! Unfortunately (so they say) German spies had captured the self destruct codes—and blew the plane up along with Joe.) The weapon was captured after D-Day—they never got it to work.

It was not John, it was Joe that served in England and far down the chain of command from supreme commander Ike.

Although in the Navy he worked on projects to ight the Germans

The painting of Washington crossing the Delaware in PT 109 is seared in my memory.

IIRC, Brian Williams inspired BG Anthony McAuliffe during the Battle of the Bulge. Brian was in the HQ munching on almonds when the Germans delivered their demand to surrender.

Destroyer, cruiser, potato, potatoes!!
Regardless it was a very big ship that ran over a navy fast boat.
Why was that fast boat sitting idle? No one on watch?
JFK the hero was a fake news story put together to cover his a**.

For one thing, Ike was Army and JFK was Navy.
