President Donald Trump has said the US will inflict "severe punishment" on Saudi Arabia if the kingdom is found to be responsible for the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
He said he would be "very upset and angry if that were the case", but ruled out halting big military contracts.
Mr. Khashoggi, a critic of the Saudi government, vanished on October 2 after visiting its consulate in Istanbul...

Saudi Arabia is the home of the terrorist ideology and Saudi backed terrorists operated in conjunction with US-UK-Western and even Israeli support one could argue in Syria for the last seven years.
I think the President is hedging a bit, he did the sword dance with the leaders in Saudi Arabia last year, but here we are.
The Turks say they have audio and video evidence of Khashoggi's murder. He has killed and dismembered with a bone saw we are told.
Turkey versus Saudi Arabia.
Maybe we should sit this one out?
That was quite a post you had last weekend on your blog about Saudi Arabia.
People need to read and understand the problem.

So let me see if I have this straight.....
This Kashhoggi guy has been uber critical of the Crowned Prince. He leaves the kingdom fearing for his safety.
Then he goes into a Suadi Arabian Consulate in of all places Turkey (aren’t consulates sovereign territory) and we’re surprised that they grabbed him and killed him on the spot?
I’m sorry to inform you Mr. Kashoggi you’re dead because you were stupid.
Turkey and the Russians are supposedly pushing the Saudi backed forces northwards in Idlib with a demilitarized zone in coming days.
But the USA needs to stop pretending 17 years after than 9/11 that we can keep doing business with the nation that spawned the Al-Qaeda terrorist movement while we say we are fighting an organization called “Al Qaeda”.
We have clearly aligned ourselves with Saudi backed jihadis in places like Libya and now Syria and with their propaganda arm, the “White Helmets”.
Germany, the UK and Canada are “resettling” some of them after the USA and President Trump asked Israel to help get them out through the Golan in the summer.
If the Turks really had Audio and Video of his demise, they would have made it public. I find it to be a little hard to believe that the Turks would have Audio and Video capabilities inside the Saudi Consulate and the Saudis wouldn’t have found it and removed it when they moved in.
The guy was not a US citizen, so not much our concern. That said, we seriously need to decide if Saudi Arabia is friend or foe, then act accordingly. My vote is that they are a clear foe. We should treat them no differently than Iran and North Korea. I also suggest the same for China and a few others. Stop coddling our enemies!
Trump looks at the big picture...would rather use leverage with the Saudis and still give our businesses $150 billion in business than allow Russia and China to spread their own hegemony....might offend some folks’ sensibilities but he has his head screwed on right.
A. He needed a divorce document from them so he could remarry.
B. He was given a nice treatment by the Saudis and made to feel friendly entering the consulate.
C. He told his fiancé if something happened when he went in on October 2nd to call an adviser to the Turkish President Erdogan.
Just look at who's coming out in support of the journalist vs the reform of radical Islam.
There is excellent cooperation between the US, Saudi Arabia as well as Israel contributing to the demise of radicals in the area. Like it or not, the prince is the "good guy" here.
The media wants President Trump to break with Saudi Arabia.
It won't work.
America has "freedom of speech".
Saudi Arabia has "the sword". Maybe that will change in the future. Maybe their radicals won't be so lucky.
Spies can be anywhere and everywhere with technology nowadays.
One of the big problems here is all the Saudi-Gulf Arab money in our economy, in the business world etc.
President Trump admits he wants to keep selling the weapons to the Saudis citing the “jobs”.
You can see it in all the attempts to diss this horrible story implicating the Saudis in an evil act.
The story goes 15 men cut the Journalist in 15 pieces and 15 men carried the pieces out of the embassy.
My questions are,
1) Did they draw straws on who carried what part?
2) Who got the asshole, the new guy?
It weird how that worked.
They “let women drive” then arrested the women who advocated for more freedom for women and threw them in jail.
That’s what Saudi Arabia is really like.
Too much foreign influence on our country from this one (Saudi Arabia), not Russia like we have been distracted by.
I read that this guy was Muslim Brotherhood. I do not see a problem with Saudis killing terrorists. Isn’t that what we want them to do?
But the important thing is that it reminds us that our relationship with Saudi Arabia is a relationship with a theocratic tyranny.
The propaganda line is that Iran, Saudi Arabia’s Shia Islam rival is evil, evil, evil.
This totally disputes that simplistic and self-serving money and business based narrative.
From all accounts, he was muslim brotherhood. Can’t get my concern meter working this morning.
I don’t see it. Iran is still evil as is Turkey. I don’t care if their people get whacked by Saudis who are also evil. I know this guy was a WaPo contributor, but so what? The WaPo is not worth us getting into any dispute with another country. It seems to me like a good thing for us to stay totally out of. Let the Turks and Saudis work this mess out.
One less member of the Islamic cult is good news. And isn’t Muslim Brotherhood a recognized terrorist organization? So, good he’s dead and, further, Washington Post should be challenged to explain why they are hiring and funding terrorists, even if they have the cover of being a reporter by day? Should we presume this is an endorsement of terrorism?
Or maybe we could dream of a Trump Doctrine of no interference in countries that stay within their borders unless invited by a country to be involved there. The mess in the ME was because mapmakers after WW1 and WW2 redrew borders and created new countries that would favor European interests.
Send a note to Rep. Eschoo, so she can convey the story to Senator Feinstein.

Let the locals sort it out and ask J. Acosta and A. Cooper to go to the scene of the alleged crime and report on their findings.
