Black Man Claims Police Were Called on Him as He Was Baby-Sitting 2 White Children

A black baby sitter in Georgia has claimed cops were called on him over the fact that he had two white children in his care.

Corey Lewis said he was in the parking lot of a Cobb County Walmart Sunday when he noticed a white woman watching him and the two children, ages 6 and 10, whom he was baby-sitting.

“She pulls around to the car and she asks, ‘Are the kids alright?’ I said, ‘Why wouldn’t they be?’” Lewis told InsideEdition.com. “She gave a shoulder shrug. She left and then she came back … and said, ‘Can I speak to the little girl and ask her if she knows who you are?’ I said, 'No.'"

He said the unidentified woman then informed him she was going to take down his license plate number.

Lewis said he thought the encounter was over until he went to a nearby gas station and noticed the woman was following him. That’s when he began recording on Facebook Live.

The woman allegedly followed Lewis home and apparently called police. In a video shared of the moment, a police officer questions the children about how they know Lewis.

While Lewis understands the officer was just doing his job, he was emotional about the situation.

“This random lady is trying to assassinate my character based off her assumptions and judgments,” Lewis said.

Lewis, who works with children, was baby-sitting one of the children involved in his after-school program, “Inspired by Lewis” and the child’s sister.

The children’s parents were not pleased when they heard what happened and said Lewis was only questioned because he was driving around two white children.

“B-W-B is the new thing, baby-sitting while black,” David Parker, the children’s father, told WSMV.

Walmart did not respond to InsideEdition.com’s request for comment.

I recently babysat my grandson, 6. I also raised my daughter, alone, from the age of 19 months to adulthood.

Is it because he refused to let some busybody broad upset the children?

I will admit him pulling out a phone and live streaming the confrontation on Facebook seems like he was fabricating a fake hate crime.

And maybe he was. Who know what he was doing prior to the incident.

I’m just looking at new details here in this story and will not jump to the conclusion he was the racist. Maybe she was.

Do you let random people who approach you in public with a hostile attitude talk to your kids? I hope not.

Plenty of families have kids that don't appear like their parents, or step parents. Absent some indication that something is wrong, bothering them is rude and uncalled for.

The mother said her children, Addison and Nicholas, were frightened for Lewis when the officer questioned him.

“They said they were scared that they would say the wrong thing and cause him to get arrested,” Mango said, adding that her children love Lewis like a member of the family.

She said Lewis has for two years picked up her son from school every day and babysat until the parents are off work. Lewis "had to go to a wedding for a week, and every day Nicholas asked when he was coming back," Mango said.

Back when the kids were little I loved going to the parks and the nature trails to play with them and watch them. Being the only man there was aggravating I’m sure, as I let my kids do stuff the moms wouldn’t. (Like climb up on the top of the structure, jump off, play in the mud, etc.) Of course the other kids would want to join in, with their moms saying no. Once in awhile some mom would let their kids join in.

Often some mom would say “Oh - you have baby sitting duty today?”

“Um, no. I’m their dad.”

I’d also bring their friends along too on occasion - but those “play dates” were usually for my wife and the other moms so they could hang out together.

When my daughter was about 8 I took her and two of her (female) friends to Magic Mountain, an amusement park about 160 miles from San Diego, for the day. The mothers of the two friends trusted me, perhaps because I was a single father with custody of my daughter.

Thye Babysitter should have called the Police on Her for STALKING and Attempted Kidnapping, the instant she came back, she was guilty of BOTH CRIMES!!

Single Father with custody of my daughter, I took her friends all over gods creation, Boating,Camping,Amusement Parks, we were gone every other weekend. All of the Parents Trusted me, probably for the same reason, the Court gave me full custody and the egg donor got monitored visitation at MY discretion!
