Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday signed a bill that adds a third gender category on birth certificates issued in New York City.
The new non-binary identity category, known as X, is for those who dont consider their gender to be male or female.
A letter from a physician or an affidavit by a licensed health care provider will no longer be provided.
Residents can now submit their own affidavit requesting a change in gender identity.
New Yorkers should be free to tell their government who they are, not the other way around, de Blasio said. This new legislation will empower all New Yorkers especially our transgender and gender non-binary residents to have birth certificates that better reflect their identity, and it furthers the Citys commitment to defending the rights of our LGBTQ community.
For the first time, all New Yorkers will be able to get a birth certificate that reflects and affirms their lived reality, said First Lady Chirlane McCray. We will not stop there we strive to extend that dignity to every aspect of life. We will stand strong against any attempt to deny members of the LGBTQ community the respect or safety they deserve as fellow human beings.
Today is a landmark day for our city, said Speaker Corey Johnson. New York is sending a clear message to people who are transgender, gender non-conforming and non-binary that we are here for you. This law will help those friends, neighbors and colleagues better self-identify on their birth certificates, a document thats so important in everyday life.
Last week, de Blasio held a public hearing on his birth certificate proposal.
This is an example of respecting all New Yorkers, and giving people the freedom of self-determination and self-expression, de Blasio said.
Prior to 2014, New Yorkers seeking to change the gender on their birth certificates had to have undergone gender confirmation surgery first.
Sorry, but on some things like the number of sexes the science really is settled.
This is so sick!
h/t to Pookie18.
Ever the punk commie...just like his folks.
And the hits just keep on coming...
You can call a bull a cow if you want to, it’s a free country. If you have a lot of power and a great PR team and nothing better to do, you can get a law passed saying that we all have to call a bull a cow. But when milking time comes, don’t think you’re going to send me into that pen with a bucket. I’m not a fool, and I won’t pretend to be a fool for you or anybody else.
What if I identify as an oak tree? Do I get a letter T for “tree” on my birth certificate?
That says it all.
“De Blasio Signs Bill Adding Third Gender, X, To Birth Certificates”
They need to add a second species because these filthy democrats are not human.
The Democrats have determined that they do not have enough identity groups to pander to so they have created a new one out of whole cloth to add to their arsenal of prospective voters. Now all they have to do is fashion a victim slogan to complete the cycle. “X Lives Matter” or “X Too”
You would think he could come up with something more imaginative than “X”, which is the designation for the MALE chromosome. Why not just the generic “Other”?
Who died and made De Blasio God?
In Hymietown, anything’s possible.
In other words, birth certificates become meaningless.
The party of science has spoken.
I thought records like these were in the state’s realm?
There are 3 genders: Masculine, Feminine and Neuter. It’s demonstrated in the nature of evolved languages themselves. Any other “genders” are a fraud.
Many reasons this is stupid... but I recently saw a comedy sketch where a transvestite goes to get an X-ray, and the doctor tells him to put a shield over his penis. I dont have a penis, Im a lady. I realized then that this is going to wreak havoc on medical treatment, where there are often differential treatment regimes based on sex.
You lie, you die. But then theyll sue. So then med malpractice goes up. Then the cost to get plain regular care for plain regular folk who accept their own sex goes up.
Goes waaaaaay beyond personal liberty.
