CNN is shining a light on three of the most consequential races in 2018 including the Texas bid for U.S. Senate through debates or town halls in the coming weeks.
But Texans wont get to see incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and Democratic challenger U.S. Rep. Beto ORourke of El Paso face off in this series.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R) declined CNNs invitation to participate in the town hall, a CNN statement noted.
So ORourke will be featured in a live, one-hour town hall with CNN Chief Political Correspondent Dana Bash in South Texas on Oct. 18.
The Cruz campaign did not immediately respond Tuesday afternoon to a request on why the senator will not participate.
The solo town hall will air at 9 p.m. central time Oct. 18 and be televised from the McAllen Performing Arts Center.

In other words CNN goes forward with an illegal contribution to Beto’s campaign cause Cruz didn’t wanna co-star in their hour long Beto commercial.
Wise move.
Eschew CNN; they can never help.
Let him talk. The more he talks the worse he polls
Candy Crowley and Jim Acosta would have moderated, or Anna Navarro. It would be an ambush.
CNN gave Hillary the Sanders-Clinton townhall questions in advance. It’s a set up. As fake as the Twenty-One gameshow scandal.
Time-Lies
Boycott Time-Warner
CNN go to hell
I don’t think it qualifies as an illegal campaign contribution since the time-offer was made to the “other team”.
But I have not heard of equal offers being made from Ellen and all of the other shows that had Robbie O’Dork on as a mouthpiece.
“CNN is shining a light” says the writer! huh.
Well,it will be another week or so before some woman comes forward saying that Cruz raped her in 1972.
Beto would have had all the questions ahead of time.
People stuck at airports .
I think he’s smart to ignore this gotcha gala. There’s nothing to gain by speaking to a CNN audience and plenty to lose.
Considering CNN’s long history of planting activists with biased questions, as well as leaking the questions to their preferred candidate prior to the debate, Cruz is smart to avoid this ambush. Additionally, Cruise is too cold and stiff for the town hall format, where being correct, or even having the better answer isn’t enough.
A CNN Town Hall would have been a disaster.
***************
No need to walk into an ambush. Cruz did the right thing.
Agree! There would be a lot of plants in the questioners to help Beto.
And those few will be Democrat beto supporters anyway. Maybe, they will empty out their accounts to send to the hopeless cause. Cruz is going to smoke Beto by 10+ points.
Would that be anything like the 2016 townhalls, where the democrat gets all the questions ahead of time?
Who is going to watch A Filobuster Bagogas talk to himself on CNN?
The intense focus of the CNN debate mods will be to trap and destroy Ted and the Republican Senate seat.
Cruz would have been a sucker to accept.
Why go to a town hall that CNN is sure to stack with a mob of crazed Democrats to pump up a cable audience for an otherwise audience starved network?
