I have long been critical of Republicans who abandoned principles to stand with Trump and I am as critical of Republicans who abandon principles to oppose Trump. Principle should stay because people go. The Kavanaugh nomination has been clarifying in this regard. Seeing some conservatives willing to aid and abet character assassins because Trump nominated Kavanaugh is disgusting.
I find myself in an odd position where, for the first time, I see myself, one of the original so-called Never Trump conservatives, voting for President Trump in 2020. I have inevitably concluded at times that Trump would do something to push me away from him. He has not disappointed on that front from tariffs to character issues. But now I do not see how anyone else can offer a more compelling alternative to the President. Each time the President does something I do not like, his opponents play a game of hold my beer.
. . .
The political press has behaved as co-conspirators with the Democrats in the Kavanaugh matter. They have clearly been fully co-opted. Reporters are planting their flags with the so-called Resistance and donning pink hats instead of defending truth and reporting facts. There is much in this present political age about which I am uncertain. But there is one thing about which I am absolutely certain. President Trump is not my enemy and too many progressives view me as theirs.

OUR turn for FDR's precedent: Thirteen More Years
I’m waiting for George Will to retire.
I’m happy the never Trumpers have come home.
I guy can dream . . .
I have always liked Trump. I loved his brashness. When I heard his speech saying he is running I was on board. I was a Cruz supporter before Trump came down the escalator!
No, not I, A
I was wondering what the hell was wrong with this country.
One of Trump’s many many accomplishments is revealing just how many alleged Republicans actively wanted to lose.
I have no quarrel with those who in 2016 doubted Trump’s convictions. Nor with those even today who are unhappy with his use of Twitter. But the very best status that will ever be possible for people that actively campaigned against him during the general election will be “unreliable” — with few moving past “untrustworthy”. My sincere advice to the pundits pushing McMuffin is to shut up and find a real job.
Mike Pompeo.
Dont forget the ultimate toad rick Wilson aka dossier errand boy. Spit
When you listen to him speak at these rallies (like the one in Kansas tonight) there is no doubt in my mind he is going to run.
He loves this job. He loves fighting. And he loves saving the country he loves.
GFY Erick.
GFY.
Not only did he oppose Trump, he kept him from attending a conference that every other GOP candidate attended.
Never never trust a Never-Trumper.
Those Uni Party Establishment Losers love to use the word “Principles” over and over
Stop lying to yourself, this is not principals talking, this is petulance. Principals is "ok I am not getting my way but which option best advances my political agenda?" Never Trumpers aren't "principled" theirs is a position of pure infantile petulance because their choice lost.
"WHAAA, you did not do what I wanted so I am going to go actively work for the candidate who is 100% opposed to my views. Whaa" All the nonsese about a "3rd choice" was just chilish rationalization to avoid looking at the fact they were active poltical allies of the Clinton Crime machine.
The uni party establishment loser also like to call Trump a Populist. I say THEY are the Popoulists. They only agree with what’s popular among the Elites.
Won’t worry about that. They seem to start becoming conservative 6 months before an election. How do you think McCain got elected over and over again....I mean aside from AZ being populated by gulable morons.
Just think what it must have taken for GWB to betray his Deep State compadres in order to lobby for Kavanaugh.
The significance of this is hard to understate. Trump achieved nationally what I failed to do in Virginia - force the GOPe to accept a junior role in a conservative coalition.
Agree, Trump will only serve one term. His wife won’t go for two terms.
There were reasons why some conservatives didn’t like Trump during the primaries. He’s changed his voter registration 6 times. He supports an infrastructure plan bigger than Obama’s. He was on video saying everyone would be covered by healthcare and “the government will pay for it.” There wa the old video of hm with Russert talking about how completely pro-choice he was. (I know he took a pro-life position, but nobody believed Romney had genuinely switched.)
So some conservatives were hesitant about Trump based on his history. However, he campaigned on generally conservative themes (infrastructure excepted), and he has been a good president who has disappointed, if at all, only on a few things (such as signing a massive spending bill after saying he wouldn’t sign another one.)
I can see why conservatives didn’t fully support him during the primaries. I was one. Once he became the nominee, most of the reasons to oppose him went away, especially as the campaign went along. (And especially since he was the Not Hillary candidate.)
As president, he has been much better than the Trump-skeptical conservatives expected. Even a lot of “Never Trump” conservatives are generally pleased with his performance. So there is even less reason to oppose his re-election in 2020.
