I can relate. My daughter and son in law are late thirty somethings and have totally beer bonged the socialist koolaid. On social media bashing the admin, christianity, anything conservative. My SIL’s bro is particularly rabid. Funny thing is that libs DESPISE paying high taxes themselves and are always moving due to soiling their own nest.
My daughter was never a people person but she met her athiest husband at work (whose whole family was adopted) and it went downhill from there. I’m grateful they’ve decided on no children. My son and his wife are a different story, thankfully.
The days of just ignoring the whack jobs are gone. We can no longer hope the problem will go away by ignoring it. I, too, have been silenced in the past.

I think you are conflating two very different types of confrontation here.
I totally agree with you that when our liberties are at stake we need to fight back with everything we have. That is exactly what I love about President Trump - he fights, and he shows us how to fight.
But that isn’t what I was talking about.
I interact with low information leftist zombies who are completely brainwashed - conversations with them are so inconsequential and unproductive that confronting them is literally a waste of time.
Even then, I will sometimes engage, especially if there is a group of people listening and I can see that a few of them are actually open minded and intellectually curious. In those cases, I will take on the loudest Leftist, set a trap for them and make them look foolish in front of their audience. I’m actually pretty good at it.
I am more than happy to debate if there is any chance of changing someone’s mind or vote, or even getting them to question their dogma.
On the other hand, I have learned to recognize certain types who are too dumb or too far gone to bother with. They move the goalpost, bait and switch, dodge, use straw man arguments and appeals to authority - and they don’t even listen to what you have to say.. There is no way you are getting their vote.
There is this one Trump hater I see at pool league on Tuesdays. Each week I make a few small bets with him (a drink, or $5-$10) - over such matters as how many weeks before Trump will be impeached, whether Kavanaugh will be confirmed, etc.. This has been going on for two years - it started with bets about whether/when Trump would drop out of his bid for POTUS, whether Clinton would beat him and by how much.
I ALWAYS win, week after week - but this guy and his friends are so blinded by Trump hate that they never learn. I even make a point of reminding them that I always win - but they are absolutely sure Trump is going down THIS time.

I think it’s tied to their egos. At this point, they have so much invested in their “Trump is evil!” viewpoint that to admit they’re wrong would shatter their worldview about... well, everything.
Hell, they might even wake up one morning and begin to think slaughtering unborn babies is wrong - who knows.

I thought that was a bad idea at first. Then when Kavanaugh went ballistic on them, and they let the Republicans start speaking for themselves - especially Lindsey Graham, I reconsidered.
I actually think that in retrospect using Mitchell was a smart strategy - take away a Democrat talking point without really giving up anything.

He is handling it in a fair way which will show the DemonRats as disingenuous if they object to his methods. Some around here are all in favor of smash and burn but he is too much of a gentlemen for that.

Grassley has handled this entire affair JUST PERFECTLY.
No one can claim misogyny. No one can claim unfair treatment against Christine B'Lousy Fraud.
As a side effect of this entire sordid affair (probably unintentional) Republicans are fired up for the midterms.
What possible reason is there for not allowing the public to read this report? Senators are more capable than those of us who elected them?
Some selective leaking will go on though. I would have all of the demos stripped searched going in and out of the room.
