Political Scientists Study why Progressive Mind Manipulation Fails on Gun Owners

On 2 September 2018, Kansas University released a summation of a study on how gun owners affect politics.  The study will be presented at the American Political Science Association annual meeting in 2018, in Boston.

A problem all scientists face is overcoming assumptions about reality they have already made. It is particularly true in social sciences such as political science. In such studies, it is very difficult to keep the world view of the person studying a subject from influencing the study.

Most political scientists today subscribe to the Progressive political philosophy. It seems to be the case in the study of gun owners.

Consider the statements in the press release.

From ku.edu:

“Part of the reason majority opinions on gun control legislation aren't turning into policy is that gun owners are a very strong political group who hold a lot of weight and hold a lot of influence despite being a minority in American politics,” said Abbie Vegter, a graduate student in political science.

Vegter is collaborating on the research with KU political science professors Don Haider-Markel and Mark Joslyn. They are presenting their findings, “Motivated Voices: Gun Ownership and the Propensity for Political Participation,” Sept. 2 as part of the American Political Science Association's annual meeting in Boston.

In the progressive philisophical view of politics, elite experts are supposed to decide how society should be changed. Then the media “manufactures consent” by manipulating public opinion. Once public opinion is moved in the direction desired, government officials are freed

Peaceful coexistence with these people is not possible.

We need to quit pretending that it is.

2A people actually contest the moral level of the conflict instead of sitting there on the defensive when a loon lefty makes the usual crackpot moral judgement against us.

I would dispute that gun control is a ‘majority opinion.’
Besides, this is a Republic, not a Democracy, and there are quite a few things on which they don’t get to vote.

IOW, they can’t figure why gun owners don’t move their views over time the way all other social/ moral views have migrated.

**** by manipulating public opinion.***

BINGO! Most of us old timers today remember the freedoms we had before 1968, clear back to 1962 when Thomas J Dodd and Emanuel Cellar declared..”We ONLY want to register handguns! Long guns will not be affected!”
Then they wanted to register all guns.
Then ban small foreign made handguns and 5 shot bolt action army surplus rifles. We remember the vicious news media attacks on gun ownership and hunting back in the 1960s and 1970s.
Then ban small American made guns.(Rifles will not be affected)
Then ban ALL American made handguns.(Rifles will not be affected)
Then they came for the rifles.

So, we have learned NEVER to trust any media manipulation trying to force people to give up their rights to own firearms.

It took me a while to realize those manipulating us lie.

They lie often, without compunction.

The lie to themselves.

They are not concerned with truth.

They believe truth is what they make it to be.

The Nazi guns laws of America, & how we got them.

If you agree with the Gun Control Works "EXPERTS" the likes of Castro, Qaddafi, Stalin, Idi Amin, Mao Tse-Tung, Pol Pot, Kim Jong-ll, and of course the poster boy of the left, Adolf Hitler (1889-1945), so favored, they had his German {Nazi} gun laws' translated into English, then enacted, ( The assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963, prompted the country to focus on the regulation of firearms. Then the urban riots beginning in 1964 and the 1968 assassinations of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. and Senator Robert F. Kennedy fueled an inferno of outrage that demanded congressional action. In the wake of these acts of violence the U.S. Congress enacted the Gun Control Act (P.L. 90-618, 82 Stat. 1213) which President Lyndon B. Johnson signed in 1968.) thank you Connecticut's U.S. Senator {1959-1971} Thomas J. Dodd, father of U.S. Senator Chris Dodd D-CT, 1981-2010, this is "Education" at it's best.

{Thomas Joseph} Dodd was elected as a Democrat to the House of Representatives in 1952, and served two terms. He lost a Senate election in 1956 to Prescott S. Bush, but was elected in 1958 to Connecticut's other Senate seat and then re-elected in 1964.

In 1967 {Thomas Joseph} Dodd became the first Senator censured by the US Senate since Joseph McCarthy in 1954, and was one of only six people censured by the Senate in the 20th century. The resulting censure was a condemnation and finding that he had converted campaign funds to his personal accounts and spent the money.

Occam's razor starts here:

Thomas Joseph Dodd became vice chairman of the Board of Review and later executive trial counsel for the Office of the United States Chief of Counsel for the Prosecution of Axis Criminality at Nuremberg, Germany, in 1945 and 1946.

Occam's razor ends here. He practiced law privately in Hartford, Connecticut, from 1947 to 1953.

U.S. Senator Thomas Joseph Dodd, (May 15, 1907 – May 24, 1971) the father of U.S. Senator {1981 to 2011} for Connecticut, Christopher Dodd.

In 1967 [Thomas Joseph] Dodd became the first Senator censured by the US Senate since Joseph McCarthy in 1954, and was one of only six people censured by the Senate in the 20th century.

Occam's razor starts here:

As chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency, [Thomas Joseph] Dodd worked to restrict the purchase of mail order handguns, and later shotguns and rifles. These efforts culminated in the Gun Control Act of 1968, which {Thomas Joseph} Dodd introduced, including certain registration requirements.

Occam's razor ends here.

Zimring, Franklin E. (1975). "Firearms and Federal Law: The Gun Control Act of 1968". The Journal of Legal Studies. 4 (1): 133. ISSN 0047-2530. Nuremberg Trials

Both Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson, chief prosecutor for the U.S., and {Thomas Joseph} Dodd insisted upon a fair and legal trial to prosecute the Nazi war criminals.

Occam's razor (also Ockham's razor or Ocham's razor; Latin: lex parsimoniae "law of parsimony") is the problem-solving principle that, when presented with competing hypothetical answers to a problem, one should select the answer that makes the fewest assumptions. The idea is attributed to William of Ockham (c. 1287–1347), who was an English Franciscan friar, scholastic philosopher, and theologian.

Fake statistics with regards to gun violence and hidden data with regards to crime prevention does not help their cause.

Peaceful coexistence with these people is not possible. We need to quit pretending that it is.

This was brought home to me at my daughter's birthday party last week.

Being transracial adoptive parents makes for some "colorful" associations for the sake of our children, and providing them gatherings where they are not the minority.

At one point I actually blurted out in astonishment at the conceit of one intentionally single mom (with all that implies) arguing immigration policy with another parent.

"Carol, what are you doing?"

"He's a BORDER PATROL AGENT!"
