The Senate Judiciary Committee referred apparent false statements made to committee investigators alleging misconduct by Judge Brett Kavanaugh for criminal investigation on Saturday.
Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Chris Wray seeking to have materially false statements made to the Committee as part of its investigation of allegations against Kavanaugh referred for criminal investigation.
In the letter, Grassley discussed the Committees investigation into various allegations made against Kavanaugh, which he noted has involved communicating with numerous individuals claiming to have relevant information.
While many of those individuals have acted in good faith in providing the Committee information during the investigation, unfortunately it appears some have not, Grassley said in the letter before providing Sessions and Wray with the name of the individual who made the apparent false statements.
The unidentified man in question who made the apparent false statement reportedly contacted Sen. Sheldon Whitehouses (D-R.I) staff on Monday to report an allegation of sexual misconduct against Kavanuagh, according to Grassleys letter.
The man claimed that in August of 1985, Kavanaugh sexually assaulted a close acquaintance of his on a boat in the harbor at Newport, Rhode Island.
As Grassley noted, the Committee took the allegation seriously and asked Kavanaugh numerous questions about it under penalty of felony during an interview on Tuesday. Kavanaugh denied the allegation.
On Wednesday, the Committee publicly released a redacted transcript of that interview, with the unidentified mans name redacted.
Afterwards, at 7:51 pm that same evening, [the man] 'recanted' and apologized for his allegation via social media, Grassley wrote. I have enclosed the relevant materials documenting these facts.
The Committee is grateful to citizens who come forward with relevant information in good faith, even if they are not one hundred percent sure about what they know, Grassley said in the letter. But when individuals provide fabricated allegations to the Committee, diverting Committee resources during time-sensitive investigations, it materially impedes our work. Such acts are not only unfair; they are potentially illegal.
It is illegal to make materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statements to Congressional investigators, he continued. It is illegal to obstruct Committee investigations.
Accordingly, in light of the seriousness of these facts, and the threat these types of actions pose to the Committees ability to perform its constitutional duties, I hope you will give this referral the utmost consideration, Grassley wrote.
And Achoo’s staff - from testimony and print, Ford said that an Achoo staff member was to deliver her letter to Feinstein.
Excellent. This should give anyone else pause to come forward with a false story.
It can practically be sensed in his little blurb about the ‘mistake,’ that he knew he was just throwing fuel on the fire. He thought, like the women still think, they can say anything and walk away. He really needs to be charged under the provision provided. Scare the criminals a bit to stop future ones from doing this stuff.
I’m sure that Sleepy Sessions will get right on it.
He will probably just say, the dude had no criminal intent, and he walks.
It wouldve great to see these charges be filed against Ford!
Feinstein should be referred for a psychological examination sooner rather than later.
What to do with false accusers?
Read Daniel 6:24
Thank you, 9422WMR! I recalled what happened to the men and totally forgot about the family members. I remember thinking when I was younger and even as a Newbie Christian how harsh that seemed to be. As I’ve aged, I realized the difference. My heart ached for the loss of the family members; I failed to see the full picture. The Lord God had impressed upon the King how HE was in charge of Daniel and of those under HIS (God’s) care. The King in turn was making it clear lying would not be tolerated and that such a severe price was needed to be paid to make that clear. I used to say it was hard for me to accept so many things. I realize as I age (still a very young 61) it’s more of a ‘hard for me to understand’ issue. And that will only come with age and many things will only become clear in His presence. I am grateful you took the time to reply to me!
But the CORRUPT FBI is NOT going to interview Swetnick?? The RAPE TRAIN ACCUSER?? WHY?? Are they afraid of her CPL, Avenatti?
While the FBI is at it maybe they can find out what the Rats promised Judas Flake. Silver and Gold, campaign cash to run against Trump in 2020?
The less interviewing, the better. They’re tasked with only “credible” accusations. Swetnick is deemed to be not credible.
I don't have much hope for accountability in D.C.! It has not happened yet. Look at all of the people saying Ford was credible. I watched the entire hearing fiasco and wonder what hearing they watched. I saw a mentally challenged, heavily medicated woman misspeak in the voice of a 13 year old child that couldn't remember her lines and had to be propped up by her pro bono democrat active lawyer who sat with his hand on her leg throughout the proceedings. LOCK THEM UP!!!
