WASHINGTON Republican Party leaders may be insisting that they will install Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, but Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska is offering a blunt warning of her own: Do not prejudge sexual assault allegations against the nominee that will be aired at an extraordinary public hearing on Thursday.
We are now in a place where its not about whether or not Judge Kavanaugh is qualified, Ms. Murkowski, a key swing Republican vote, said in an extended interview in the Capitol Monday night. It is about whether or not a woman who has been a victim at some point in her life is to be believed.
One of two Republican woman in the Senate who supports abortion rights Susan Collins of Maine is the other Ms. Murkowski was always expected to be a critical vote in Judge Kavanaughs confirmation process. But she is making clear that, beyond matters of reproductive rights, she is deeply troubled by Christine Blasey Fords story of a sexual assault by Judge Kavanaugh when she was 15 and he was 17.
In the interview, Ms. Murkowski emphasized how invested she is in assessing Dr. Blaseys story. She said she worked behind the scenes last weekend to ensure negotiations between Republicans and the accusers lawyers did not fall apart because of an arbitrary timeline. She canceled a meeting of the Senate committee she chairs on Thursday to ensure her schedule was clear.

It’s not: AK voters just usually stick with incumbents whose name they recognize on a ballot.
Hard not to remember that had Luther Strange been nominated for Senate in AL, we’d have that crucial extra insurance vote.
The voters already did when they elected this idiot
She was primaried and. . . .
Mitch was the one who helped her around it.
I wonder what she said if anything about due process regarding Kavanaugh and presumption of innocence.
“then revote right after the election”

Her name wasn’t on the ballot, she won as a write in. That takes proactive stupidity.
I definitely got the sense that Manchin would support K as he stated yesterday that it has to be more than just accusations that take him down.
haven’t heard anything out of the other 2 dems
I have no problem with the “take accusations seriously” part.
What gobsmacks me is that she wants the FBI to investigate because, “Then we’ll know, won’t we?”
What makes her think an FBI investigation today will settle the questions, when the SIX PRIOR FBI investigations missed so damn much (allegedly)? Why trust them TODAY?
McConnell should approach Manchin and Donnelly (IN) and ask them what they need for their respective states... y'know... in exchange for something.
In the absence of any collaboration, evidence or even details, such illogical certainty can only be explained by toxic levels of estrogen.
Once again, this has nothing to do with Kav, but rather the roll out of weaponized propaganda tactics. The proglibs care nothing of tradition, of culture, of values, of testing the limits of civil conduct. Rather, smearing Kav is simply a means to an end, one that is pursued with all possible tools available to the left.
The sharp card players in the middle, like Flake & Murk, know the value of their vote. Like all politicians, they desire power & wealth; the trick presented to Trump is how to properly evaluate and assess their demands ie the Art of the Deal. It doesn't benefit the swing voters is they vote no and get nothing. Rather, the pay-off is to vote yes while getting all their demands met.
Browse T_D, and the average post uses this obvious truth as the starting point. The kids over there have taken (our) 20 years of experience and distilled it down to a concentrated form. They don't even pretend to think politics are a matter of differences in political beliefs anymore; rather, it's just a forum for the civil war to stay cold (for now).
Poor lady, it is so easy but her apparent bias leads her to believe Ford actually was a victim, which appears to cause her miss the point entirely:
It is about whether or not a woman who - is able to present credible evidence she - has been a victim at some point in her life is to be believed.
Equally important, as a matter of fairness such credible evidence must be timely presented and in the case of the committee it may not have been. If a sitting member intentionally withholds the claim in an attempt to avoid timely presentation that ought to go to the truthfulness of the claim if it is heard.
She won after Ted Stevens was destroyed and the charges were bogus.
She is at beat a very tenuous Senator. She must be replaced.
Sounds like Murk has alreaded "bonded" with Ford... that sisterhood thing..
She was already in office since 2002. The charges against Ted Stevens resulted in that dem Mark Begich winning his seat.
and even then. I’d much prefer they vote this week or next and he’s in but even if we wait til Jan and we have a solid R lead in the senate, we can tell collins and cowski to screw themselves.
I just reviewed the list of 100 senators. I found 4-5 that I couldn’t classify as outright stupid. Of those few, I had still have some lingering doubts if they can clear the bar.
The only possibilities would be Donnelly (IN) and Manchin (WV). The others are women who are down with the struggle.
