I’ve been saying all week that you could expect another late hit on Brett Kavanaugh over the weekend, and right on schedule, we have the New Yorker story, which, as Paul and Scott have already noted, is pretty thin gruel. But it was absolutely necessary for the left to come up with a story like this, for several reasons.
First, one thing that is true in virtually all cases of sexual predation (think Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein) is that there is a pattern of behavior, and usually several other women stepping forward. This trait was conspicuously absent until now. We know that the media—and no doubt large portions of the Democratic establishment—have been trolling feverishly to find another woman with a story. This is the best they can do—a hazy, indirect, recovered memory?
Second, even a story as thin as this—even if it falls apart upon further scrutiny—reinforces a subtle aspect of the leftist narrative against Kavanaugh, which repeats the argument made against the wholly innocent Duke lacrosse players a decade ago—namely, that Kavanaugh, as a product of Georgetown Prep and Yale, is a product of “privilege,” which for the collective-guilt left these days means you must atone for the sins of your class. (Recall that something like 80 Duke faculty members signed a declaration attesting to the guilt of the lacrosse team based wholly on this ideological ground.) I’d love to be able to do a confidential survey of Georgetown Prep (and Holton Arms, Dr. Ford’s perp school) about how they feel about the left’s sweeping attack on the supposedly reprobate “culture” of their schools. Alumni of those schools can’t be thrilled at being dragged into the mud in this way. (I note that some lefties are mocking Kavanaugh as some kind of nerd for having his calendar from 1982. Well it turns out I have one too, though I don’t know where it is at the moment—likely in a storage box in the garage. Back in 1982 I was a serious runner—tow marathons and two triathlons that year plus a lot of road races—and my wall calendar is where I made my daily notations of my distance and training schemes, as well as travel and even movies I went to. I’ll confess to being a nerd.)
Third, I think this entire late gambit has been one huge bluff by the Democrats, intending to intimidate Republicans into dropping Kavanaugh. I don’t think Dr. Ford has any intention of testifying before the Judiciary Committee this week, and I expect come Wednesday we’ll get a self-serving announcement attacking Chairman Grassley and the Senate Republicans for “bullying” and creating a “hostile environment” in which Dr. Ford cannot “safely” tell her story. At that point, Grassley should call for an immediate committee vote to proceed with the nomination. This latest story in just another attempt to keep the intimidation fires alive. Fine: I say let’s call the bluff and request that Deborah Ramirez, the source of the new allegation, present herself for sworn testimony before the committee.

This is chilling, really. Irrationality is frightening and also that now anyone can be derailed by any unprovable accusations at any time is totalitarianism.
I used to admire Charles Grassley as a common sense Republican from the Middle West (he represented a neighboring state while I was a student enrolled in college). It saddens me to see how clumsily he has handled the Judiciary Committee hearings and the Kavanaugh nomination. He seems to have lost control from Day One when paid protesters interrupted the hearings. His efforts to negotiate with Blasey-Ford have only served to embolden the hardcore leftists who want to block Kavanaugh.
Call the committee to order and hold the vote unless you want every future opponent me to be hijacked for unsubstantiated slanders. I think Cruz or Hatch could have dealt with this better than Grassley.
Wow, this was hard to see coming, he said with amazingly dripping sarcasm. Chuck Schumer said he as going to do this from DAY ONE. You could count on the Gloria Allred technique to be trotted out in a blink of an eye. And the idea that only one allegation would be brought was silly naivety. Everyone saw this coming.
Enough!!! So what are the Republicans to do now? I have some ideas.
Kavanaugh is being savaged in a pseudo judicial setting otherwise known as a Kangaroo Court. In this court, there are no legal standards and the allegation is enough. End it and make them prove it. Kavanaugh should immediately raise a lawsuit for defamation and make them PROVE it under appropriate legal standards. After all, the truth is a defense to a charge of defamation. It shall set them free!! Or will it?
Secondly, McConnell should recess the Senate. He should fully do so and has the power to do so. Once recessed, he should allow the President to appoint someone not named Brett Kavanaugh. This would be done with the following “shove it up their asses statement:
“The democrats have demanded an investigation. Fine, there will be one and Judge Kavanaugh shall have the full opportunity to defend himself. In the meantime and in order to give the process ample time, the President has appointed (Fill-in the name of their WORST EFFING NIGHTMARE HERE). This person will serve the recess term or, when Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed.
Behind the scenes, its time to go full Alinsky. Not against the accusers, oh no. Its is time to turn the heat up on the dems who on the Senate Judiciary committee and their spouses, families and friends. Feinstein needs to have her opponent fully funded and supported, even if that means a lefty further left than her gets into the Senate. That kooky shyt head from Hawaii needs to be investigated and fully roasted.
Enough defense, enough of allowing totalitarians to destroy the citizens of this country!!!
If he pisses off Mitch McConnell he won’t. You can roll him on just about anything but if you screw with his SCOTUS count he would call in every chit he holds to get even. Can’t be used with the ladies, they are too dumb.

Sadly, you are correct. The GOPe Senate majority is hollow and once the Flakes and Collinses privately tell the WH they will vote “No”, he’ll have no choice but to withdraw Kavanaugh’s name.
The Republicans passed the tax cut without a single Democratic vote.
They need to circle the wagons and they need a good distraction that will send the Lefties howling in front of the whole voting public. Trump has some very smart ladies working in the White House, the Senate needs to borrow a couple of them to consult with on this.
I have this strange recurring thought that a scenario just like that will unfold here ... and the recess appointment named by Trump to the U.S. Supreme Court will be JEFF SESSIONS.

It doesn’t take a genius to see what was going to happen. What has Grassley said? They need to bring this witness forward the same day as Ford. Ford’s story was falling apart so they needed another one with worse claims. If Grassley doesn’t move this nomination forward, he is done as far as I’m concerned.
Trump WILL NOT withdraw Kavanaugh’s name HE is a FIGHTER and HE WILL NOT let this man’s reputation be destroyed by these BASTARD MARXISTS!!!! I can tell you I just want to SCREAM right now!!! The feeling of helplessness for this man and his family, it is just DISGUSTING that these RAT BASTARDS honestly have no conscious when DESTROYING a person who has honestly lived a good, clean and Christian life!!!
