A Wayne County Commissioner on Tuesday unveiled a plan for new limits, taxes, mental screening and background checks on the sale of ammunition.
District 6 Commissioner Reggie Reg Davis, a radio host who entered politics after his brother was fatally shot, announced the multi-pronged proposal at a press conference held at his familys mausoleum space.
In addition to calling on more controls nationally, the measure would mandate local regulations that would include a mental illness and background check certified by law enforcement prior to each bullet sale with police handling the transfer.
Were up against some state and federal laws. Even if it takes me going to lobby in D.C., and I expect it will, we need to make these changes, Davis, a Democrat, told The Detroit Free Press.
Besides a limit on sales and the expanded checks, Davis plans to include a special tax on the sale of ammunition to pay for the measure. Previous taxes on bullets in Seattle, Washington, and Cook County, Illinois have resulted in lengthy court challenges from retailers and Second Amendment groups.
Davis plans to submit the fleshed out proposal to commissioners next month and says he considers it a model that can be replicated nationwide. Well known in the community, he is the founder of CeaseFire Youth Initiative, a group that us
Wow. The stupidness.
What about crossing county lines or just ordering online? Whoops.
It’s easier to go after legal gun owners than to get street gangs who cause all the shootings.
Your move.
Sic semper tyranis
The Democrats would rather go after legal gun owners than Obama’s friends who attack and shoot each other in Chicago, to a tremendous level of carnage.
Yes I remind myself that this is a policrap and a dindu. He must be trying to get momentum for a run for the state legislatures. Unfortunately the people who elected him are more stupid than he is.
Nevada is doing a land office business in ammunition sales to Californians now that you have to “be licensed” to purchase ammo in CA.
How about if cops collect their pay from the local citizenry on a voluntary basis..?
[Nevada is doing a land office business in ammunition sales to Californians now that you have to be licensed to purchase ammo in CA.]
How ba da. Bet business is booming, for sure.
Can u elaborate a tiny bit?
Very interesting!
"Gee, I'm sorry sir. According to our records you have already been issued your allotted three bullets this quarter. Feel free to come back in 90 days, though!"
It’s always nice to know that when other news is bleak some lefty gun grabber will say something stupid to give us all a laugh.
Everyone has a right to safety says Gabby Gifford... yeah, it IS CALLED YOUR HUSBAND BUYING AN AR FOR HOME DEFENSE! BTCH
NOtwithstanding her armed security to protect idiots like her talking sht and nonsense in safety like in a wrestling match of douches.
Bulk discounts?
As of this year, in order to purchase ammunition in CA from a retailer, you have to pass a “background check” much the same as if you were to purchase a gun. Then you are issued a “license” which you must produce each and every time you buy ammunition. And the record of your purchase is forwarded to the state.
So a lot of gun owners in CA, are simply going to Nevada to purchase their ammo. You have to wonder just how long it will be before CA has “agents” at the state’s POEs to search your car for contraband ammo, because it is now a crime to “import” ammunition into CA?
Is there a Wall surrounding the City that prevents People from leaving and buying Ammunition someplace else?
That will create a new ‘black market’.
Another Lib idea that looks good on paper, but falls flat in reality.
Black market for loosies.
