After the nation was riveted by the Senate testimony of Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas, the Supreme Court nomination came to a vote. Democrats controlled the Senate. Joe Biden had chaired the hearings.
And yet Thomas was confirmed, with 11 Democrats joining 41 Republicans to provide the margin of victory (and two Republicans voting against him).
That would be inconceivable today. The hyperpartisan nature of today’s politics would never allow so many Democrats to defect in favor of a Republican president's nominee, one who was not only extremely conservative but had faced a last-minute accusation of sexual harassment.

ABSOLUTELY! We need Justice Kavanaugh on the SCOTUS Bench for the start of the next term in October. We should all hope Ford chooses not to testify.
GOP voters in Cali should vote for Feinstein's opponent in nov. Yes she is a socialist but that would get Feinstein out of the Senate. Feinstein has a lot of seniority and could do a lot more damage then her opponent who would have no senority.

She has named two other persons in connection with the allegation against Kavenaugh. They weren’t public figures in the manner of the Judge. Different standards will apply.
Dem's don't care about Kavanaugh or Ford.
All they care about is sinking any Trump nomination to the court.
After that they run in midterms against any possible substitute nominee, promising to block him/her if they get more Senate seats.
If K gets through its less of an emergency for them to use to get Dem voters to vote.
Kerry can explain why something that was "seared - seared in me" for decades, namely that he spent Christmas 1968 inside Cambodia on a secret illegal mission, never actually happened. Kerry was so sure of it that he had it entered into the Congressional Record, and made it the centerpiece of a 2004 campaign speech, until the Swift Boat Veterans called him out on it.
Dr. Ford's lawyer says that the party was a "traumatic and harrowing incident." I can't imagine it being more traumatic and harrowing than being shot at on a small swift boat in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam in 1968. If someone as experienced and eminent as Kerry could get it so wrong, then it's highly likely that a 15-year-old party girl got it wrong, too.

p.s. Of course, I'm being facetious. Kerry didn't misremember, he embellished a self-aggrandizing history for himself that nobody challenged him on for decades. Still, this is the story he's now committed to, so why not have him speak out about how false memories can happen, since it's happened to him? :-D
